After watching the video “The Persuaders”, I realized that I am “persuaded” all the time to buy specific products. Marketing companies always want to make sure that their advertisement gets to people. They target the consumer incredibly. They know where you live, what you like, what products you buy or what services you consume. If you watch YouTube videos, you know what I am talking about. For example, I was looking information of the iPhone 7, and hours later I was watching a YouTube video and all the ads were about the iPhone 7. The purpose …show more content…
of this is to make you buy what is advertised.

People from marketing companies are smart because they mix advertising with entertainment and emotionally connect with consumers. This is how they can turn any service into the best. Have you ever found yourself up at 2a.m. watching TV and there was nothing entertaining to see, then, you find a channel where they are telling you to consume a specific service, but in an entertaining way and you keep watching? At the end, you think that you are going to buy or pay that service even though you may not need it. It is because it was 2a.m. and you fell asleep watching the program. Unfortunately, the American culture is "advertiser-friendly”. It means that people consume the advertised: food, products, services,
etc.
It is incredible how marketers find the way so deep inside of us that it doesn’t feel that we are being persuaded. They advertised a product all over, on magazines, radio or TV. At the beginning, you may not like this product at all, but after listening and watching the same ad you may say: let’s give it a try, and you ended up buying the advertised product. There is a company who has information about your favorite sports team, household, income, and more, but it is not the FBI. It is called Acxiom. In marketing, it is important to understand the need of customers, but marketers go beyond. The video “The Persuaders” made me realized that I am “persuaded” to buy specific products and consume specific services. It also made me realize how marketers persuade us to consume what is advertised. The fact that there is a marketing company who knows everything about me, scares me. It is creepy because they use it to bombard people with advertisements. They know almost everything about you, and they can even send somebody to knock your door to complete a specific survey that needs to be done. I think that the way that we are “persuaded” is unnecessary because the purpose of this is to make us buy products that we do not need or cannot afford.
