ayugan is a city in the province of Agusan del Sur, founded on August 20, 1961. It has a population of 99,361 according to the NSO Census of 2010, and has 43 barangays. The city is classified as a third class city. Being the only city in the 1st Congressional District and the only city in the province of Agusan del Sur, Bayugan serves as “The Growth Center “of the province. Located at the northern part of Agusan del Sur, Bayugan is the ‘cut-flower capital’ of the province owing to its productive cut flower industry. The city’s climate, especially in the highland barangays, is advantageous to high yield cut-flower production. The city is also one of the major producers of rice and vegetables in the province, even the need of neighboring municipalities and provinces.
The crossroads city of Bayugan is the commercial center of northern Agusan del Sur, and the confluence of five neighboring towns. Its strategic location between Butuan and Davao cities further adds economic value to its status as a vital go-between. It boasts of 5000 hectares of rice fields, the biggest in the Caraga Region, 700 hectares of palm oil plantation, 1000 hectares of rubber plantation, and 1000 hectares of corn and falcata tree farms making it an agricultural powerhouse. Due to its role as trading center, regional retail giants such as Gaisano and NCCC, commercial banks, and property developers are poised to enter the city. With a P482.9 million internal revenue allocation (IRA) this year, Bayugan will further strengthen its agro-industrial sector, and develop of the culture of entrepreneurship, one of Bayuganons strongest traits.
