After reading these three stories, I have decided a theme to go with them. The connections with the animals and them responding to certain situations lead me to the conclusion that the theme is animals think a lot like humans do. The animals ambush prey, understand what humans are telling them, and even use tools to get food. All that is proof that animals will think like us and use their talents to survive. The following paragraphs will show why I have decided that that is the theme of the three stories.
In the story "the pod" the narrator is describing a crippled boy helps a dolphin back into the water. The dolphin seems to understand him when he speaks to it. "Suddenly, as if it had understood, the young dolphin turned toward deeper water and began to swim toward the pod." Jesse talks to the dolphin very little, but when he does it responds to …show more content…
him. "'I think your family's waiting for you, bud.' Carefully, Jesse reached out and patted the dolphin. Was it his imagination that his touch made the dolphin calmer?" The dolphin seemed to trust Jesse. A human might feel calmer when being helped and when told to do something, they did it for their benefit.
In the story "Can animals feel and think?" The narrator is describing moments when animals thought.
"think about what most dogs do when you scold them. They lower their heads and slink off to some secluded spot." In other cases, the animal uses its brain to get food. "She picked up the wire that the scientists placed beforehand in her cage. She bent the wire into a hook and used the hook to lift the treat from the tube." The animals think how a human might think in the situation that they are in. A human might use what the could to get food, or they might lower their head when scolded by a parent.
In the story "Bats!" The narrator is describing a woman who is showing people about bats. The bats use their intelligence to catch food. "there are bats that snag fish with their strong-clawed feet, bats that catch birds in midair, and even bats that ambush mice on the ground!" Mainly, I thought that the ambush on mice was the most thought-out part of that sentence. But they do need to plan the other attacks or they won't eat. A human might plan an attack or go all out, either way, they act as a human
would.
In conclusion, the theme animals think a lot like humans do, is probably best for these stories. They all lead back to communication and intelligence. All of the stories have a way to show the animal understands what is going on. If you see your pet acting like you, it isn't very rare. They have to deep with the kind of stuff we do sometimes.
