Yoga is an exercise practiced for heath and relaxation having to do with breathing control while adopting specific body positions. Some conclusions have been pieced together about the history of yoga since the exact origin is uncertain. The first concrete evidence of yoga’s existence are some stones which have pictures on them of people doing various poses that resemble today’s yoga. These stones are thought to have been used around 3000 B.C. But even though there is not physical evidence of yoga before this, some scholars believe that its origin was before the stones were created. Since Stone Age Shamanism and yoga have similar characteristics, the scholars believe this is when yoga…
We lay silently in our bed. We look at the blank white walls, the sleeping bodies, and the darkness. Everywhere. We wonder if this is all there is to life or what is being hidden. Certainly there must be something out there different from here, but we are forbidden to think of such things. Every night we close our eyes and we dream of places far away, places where we are happy always, and of places not so dark. We are forbidden to dream of such things.…

The job of the first person that wakes up is to open all windows and doors of the house. You can smell the cooking of eggs, and the making of Cuban coffee. Inside of my aunt’s house I smelled the breakfast she cooked, the flowers from her backyard, and the scent of soap from the bathroom. The hills surrounding the town reflected the rising sun’s light on the dewy grass. The sound of horses galloping enters the house as they pass by. Noises gradually increase throughout the day, but as the day dies out so does all the sounds. At night the town is quiet. The streetlights were dim, but the moon was as white as paper and the stars bright as diamonds. Families are in their homes, eating, talking, playing dominoes, or getting ready for bed. I enjoyed nighttime because my family always stayed up late to talk and laugh. Every night was the same routine. I ate, showered, and laughed until I was…
In the wee hours of the morning my life is the embodiment of a living, breathing dichotomy. Awakening with a wry little smile on my face, I knew I had dreamed of the river, big brown trout, and sweet 3wt bamboo rods. My body screams – “Where’s the coffee”, while my brain questions the sanity of getting up this early on a Saturday. Oblivious to the cacophony, the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Betraying logic, they forewarn that this pre-dawn moment was the premonition of a great day ahead.…

Barreled chest over crossed paws as you fall asleep on a carpeted patch of sun. Rhythmic snoring, like a steady drumbeat, creating loud breathing sounds while you rest. Propped on pillows, dreaming of racing your shadow through the thick scrub oak.…
Originated in ancient India, Yoga typically means 'union ' between the mind, body and spirit. It involves the practice of physical postures and poses. As the name suggests, the ultimate aim of practicing Yoga is to create a balance between the body and the mind and to attain self-enlightenment. In order to accomplish it, Yoga makes use of different movements, breathing exercises, relaxation technique and meditation. Yoga is associated with a healthy and lively lifestyle with a balanced approach to life. It increases the lubrication of joints, ligaments and tendons of the body. Studies in the field of medicine suggest that Yoga is the only form of physical activity that provides complete exercise to the body, because it massages all the internal organs and glands. This in turn reduces the risk of many diseases. Yoga can create a positive permanent difference to the lifestyle of anybody practicing it on a regular basis (Weil, n.d.).…

I have been awake before dawn at 0645 am all thanks to the scream therapy in the shower, I am washed by the cool air, air which seems that no one is breathing yet. I know where I am suddenly, I am part of this quiet and beautiful town and I am happy. Suddenly, the pure melancholy, first blue of morning begins. The air where one can bathe in. the electric shriek of a train, heels on sidewalks. The first birds. I am part of this town now.…
The shrieking sound of my bed pierced my ears as I rolled over to the “colder” side. Peeking through my bedroom window, was a ray of the rising sun who softly kissed my face as I wistfully arose from my slumber. A burst of summer breeze blew over my body stretching out my bones as it fell upon my skin. I sit up on my rusted bunk and take in a deep breath, as I exhaled, I tell myself that I’m releasing all of the negativity in my body. It’s my therapy.…
I remember the first time I stayed awake throughout the night till a beaming light peaked through the window and hit my face like the touch of a baby's hand. Although the morning had risen, the moon had just come up. In the intensity of rushing to school, the need for pleasing others with looks has gone past me. The knots and tangles I feel in my stomach have also reached my hair as I pull parts of my day out of the strands.…

As I wake up in the morning, I am suddenly staring at a grayish blue tent; through the inside of the tent, I can also see the beautiful, clear sky through the roof. My ears suddenly tune into the ocean waves splashing against the smooth rocks, and the cawing of seagulls as they glide into the salt waters in search for prey.…
Yoga therapy is an ancient holistic system of recovery of the body. For proper functioning of the body, one needs to balance the operation of such systems as digestion and blood circulation, to establish the normal operation of the endocrine glands and the vestibular apparatus. In this case, the energy state of the tissues of the body depends on the good functioning of the nervous system. The practice of yoga is based on the use of asanas and pranayama. Asanas are the physical exercises, but they are not only physical exercises. Asanas are used to affect all three aspects of a man (body, mind and consciousness), forming and combining them into one harmonious unity. Pranayama is a set of breathing practices aimed at the relaxation not only of the body, but also of the soul. It is the way of relaxation and meditation, which ensures the successful use of asanas. Because being effective in solving different problems, “more and more people afflicted with stress-related illnesses are flocking to yoga to help with managing the symptoms of these illnesses” (The Everything Yoga Blog, 2009).…
