The Pros And Cons Of Federal Tax
Money seems to be the root of the problems that surround us in our daily lives. Depending on how much we earn from employment that number is concentrated on our social class in society. However, regardless of our social class we all pay a form of federal tax. Federal tax is a tax levied by the United States Internal Revenue Service on yearly earnings of employees, corporations, trusts, and other legal entities. These taxes that are collected contribute to approximately 47 percent of the federal government’s revenue. This money subsidizes national defense and funds federal programs such as welfare and infrastructure. A percentage of our income is taxed according to the amount we earn; it varies from ten percent when making zero to 20,000 dollars to 30 percent when making 50,000 dollars and above. The controversy of eradicating federal income tax involves all American residents …show more content…
This could lead to a high rise in other taxes in order to match what they would previously gain from federal taxes. The money paid as income tax contributes back into the states and nation. Infrastructure such as highways, schools, and roads are dependent on federal funding as so is Social Security, Medicare, hospital insurance, unemployment insurance, military and law enforcement, and national defense. Once the tax is abolished the whole country would immediately feel the impact. It would be impossible to pay of national debt. Even though nobody enjoys paying taxes it does benefit us in ways we may not recognize. There could be improvements but federal taxes should not be removed as a whole; it could lead to government shutdown, national bankruptcy, and chaos within the streets. This tax is necessary even though it might seem evil to us. It benefits the needy greatly in America and those who cannot help themselves. It is a strong catalyst of cash flow in our economy and improvement of our

The article “Federalism and American Inequality” explores the issue of American economic inequality in a new way. Although this article did not present a perfect cure for inequality, that was never its goal. Simply it was an attempt to increase our understanding of inequality in our nation, and encourage both Federal, State, and Local Governments, along with citizens to use whatever influence they might have to fight…

To begin, the idea of taxation on payrolls can cause several different viewpoints. Payroll taxes are taxes that are taken from one’s total paycheck amount each time the employee is paid. For example, when a citizen works, their total paycheck will be taxed. So, there is money being deducted from the overall total. Payroll tax consists of federal taxes, state taxes, government taxes, Medicare, social security and much more. Studies today have shown more than seventy percent of US families are paying more in payroll taxes than in federal income taxes (Blaricom). This shows that citizens are being taxed more for working, compared to what they are for federal income taxes. Another reason why the taxation on payroll should be stopped is because they are taking money from employees’ paychecks in order to pay for welfare and other government funding programs. The reason why this idea is unfair is because if one has to work to make money, why is the government taking one’s pay to provide it to others who chose not to obtain a job? These programs made by the government fund the citizens who need money for food and shelter. Therefore, payroll taxes are taxes on an employee’s paycheck. These taxes go towards government spending and redundant government funding programs (Ditmer).…

The American founding fathers, during the development of the new American Constitution, discussed about many problems, including taxation, also known as “the ways and means”. The federal revenues became a really common topic to concern about, as a matter of the fact, both Federalists and Anti-Federalists tried to express their opinions about it. In general, the federalists support the general power of taxation that the Central Government was granted in the proposed Constitution. This position was argued especially by Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Paper number 30 “Concerning the General Power of Taxation” in the New York Packet: December 28, 1787. On the other hand, the anti federalists thinks that the federal authority has not the right…

It is unfair to pay more for the same service as people who pay less. It is silly to force someone to pay extra taxes because they're rich. It is like communism. It would be an opinion if someone wants to pay more tax and it would be considered prestigious. This will solve all problems and it will help the economy if it mainstream, but some people disagree with this and think that rich people should pay higher taxes because some people can't even afford groceries or to pay their bills. They are paying the same thing as the rich people so this is not fair for poor people to pay the same as rich…

The US government suggests the taxing of upper classes, and their luxury items to pay for the Affordable Care act. Not all money comes from the taxation of the rich, but almost 85 percent of the 940 billion dollars comes from a tax on those making more than 250,000 dollars a year (“Health Care Reform”). Where does all of the money taxed and borrowed through bonds to pay for the act go? Money taxed from the rich is used to offer subsides, deductibles, give seniors free wellness checkups and remove co pays on certain health services (“Making the Case”, Agiesta). Also, families who make less than 22,000 dollars a year are eligible for Medicaid, discounts on their health insurance and larger tax credits (“Making the Case”). Health insurance…

The issue of federal income tax policy has been one of hot debate and controversy for many years. Discussions and arguments on the issue have been presented on the floors of Congress, in the United States Supreme Court, used by politicians as political platforms, broadcasted in televised debates, and discussed around the dinner table of American families of various socioeconomic backgrounds for years. The Federal Government of the United States of America, like any governing body whether it be at a national, state, or local level, works (for lack of a better word) to generate revenue to make possible the funding of many public programs and services and repayment of national debt. Of course, the easiest way for any government to bring in revenue is through taxation of its citizens. If you’ve ever received a paycheck, you’ve probably realized that your hourly pay multiplied by the number of hours you’ve worked during any particular pay period isn’t exactly equivalent to the amount of money you actually get to keep. Some of the money that you earn through your own personal labor is taken from your paycheck before you even get the chance to see it. Most people pay four types of deductions, or taxes: FICA, Federal Income Tax, State Income Tax, and Local Tax (CashCourse.org). Only two of these taxes are related to the Federal Government- FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) and Federal Income taxes- and these two types of federal taxes, as well as the way in which the government collects them and possible alternatives to current tax policy, will be the main focus of my paper. To get an idea of what the government spends its (your) money on, consider that in the 2012 fiscal year, the federal government spent approximately $3.5 trillion, about 23% of our nation’s Gross Domestic Product, or GDP. Of that $3.5 trillion dollars, $2.5 trillion was financed by federal revenue, the rest by barrowing; a deficit, along with its impending…

Most Americans do not agree with higher taxes as a result of social spending because it takes hard earned money out of their hands, therefore making it harder to provide a comfortable lifestyle for their family. The average American cannot grow financially if an unnecessary amount of taxes for social spending is continuously deducted from their paychecks. The same setup applies to the United States government budget. The government is enormous and too involved socially which is far from what the original purpose of government was envisioned to be.…

We have all heard about how the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. But how bad have things really gotten? In an article written by Cory Doctorow, on BoingBoing.net, I came across some staggering statistics. “40% of all American workers make less than $20,000 a year.” “In the United States today, the wealthiest one percent of all Americans have a greater net worth than the bottom 90 percent combined.” “49.7 million Americans are living in poverty. That is…

The current distribution of income is a cost to our economy by way that we have those people who choose not to work and entirely live off what the government gives them by way of welfare checks and food stamps. We have a progressive tax system for a purpose and that is to make sure the government does not take an unreasonable amount of taxes from your paycheck. The more income you earn, the more taxes you pay, and vice versa.…

A great deal of Americans does not even understand how to calculate the collection of, or expenditures of the percentage of taxes they pay on an annual basis. Thus, there is more than a grain of truth in Ben Franklin’s oft-quoted proverb, “there are two things certain in life: death and taxes.” But death is frequently painless and only happens once! But taxes are not something, like the weather, that one cannot necessarily control. (Remember they threw the tea in Boston Harbor to protest the tea tax. If we had not won the war they would be labeled tax evaders not patriots). A basic understanding of taxes can help control their impact. Tax avoidance is perfectly legal and moral, while tax evasion is a…
