In this century there is a new way of getting gases and oils out of the earth. This way is called Hydraulic Fracturing, Fracking, or a way to smash rocks to get gas and oil. There are some positives and negatives to Fracking. Here are some facts you should know. Fracking is a way to get natural gas and oil from deep inside the earth. This technique has been used since the 1940s but did not become popular until 2005. This method is used in the USA to be specific it is used in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico. The first step to fracking is to make the fluid. The fluid has to have water, sand, and chemicals. The second step is to drill down deep into the earth's crust. Once you create a hole you then pump the fluid into the drilled hole on high pressure. Finally, as the fluid is being pumped into the hole the natural gases and oil is recovered and the drill hole is closed. Fortunately there are positives about Fracking. One positive concept about Fracking is that our natural gas and oils are growing frequently and people can pay less for fuels. Another positive concept about Fracking is that it gives us more energy storage. It also does not cost much and we don’t have to ruin a ecosystem. We can pay less for gas and it creates more jobs. Unfortunately Fracking also comes with risks. One negative about Fracking is that the water we drink can be contaminated this is because the fracking liquid has chemicals. The fracking liquid has so many chemicals that if it does reach the drinking water and contaminate it that it can not be cleaned. There is also the risk of greenhouse gasses being released.
