The Pros And Cons Of Warmbier
“According to Warmbier's statement on Monday, he wanted the banner with a political slogan on it as a trophy for the church member, who was the mother of a friend. In his comments, Warmbier said he was offered a used car worth $10,000 by a member of the church. He said the church member told him the slogan would be hung on its wall as a trophy. He also said he was told that if he was detained and didn't return, $200,000 would be paid to his mother in the form of a charitable donation. Warmbier identified the church as the Friendship United Methodist Church, which is in his hometown of Wyoming, in Ohio. Meshach Kanyion, pastor of the church, would not confirm whether he knows Warmbier or if he is a church member. 'I don't have any comment at

In the 1930s, two churches in Bradley with bells in relatively short steeples and standing in close proximity to each other became the setting for a Halloween prank enacted by a group of mischievous and ingenious boys. At each church, as groundwork for their shenanigans, they secured one end of a sufficiently long rope to the bell clapper and tossed the other end out of the steeple to the ground. The boys launched their stunt by ringing one of the bells from a hidden vantage point on the ground. Trying their best to control outbursts of laughter, they watched as the local law enforcement officers raced to the scene and entered an empty church in pursuit of the perpetrators. Once the officers engaged in an inspection of…

The scene on my poster board is set at Reed College, the college that is notorious for being the place that students are most likely to ignore God. The college was then celebrating Ren Fayre, a weekend where the campus is shut down exclusively so that the students can spend the weekend getting high and drunk. The author, Donald Miller, along with a few friends have decided on building a booth that was to be labeled “Confession Booth”, its purpose was so that students can come in and hear about Jesus’ unfailing love and not for them to actually confess their sins. Surprisingly, the booth actually becomes the beginning of many students on campus turning to God. The main point in the book that the author is trying to convey is not necessarily<…

Tortured for Christ, by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, is one man’s voice speaking for the voiceless, persecuted Christians of the Underground Church. Wurmbrand himself says, “The message I bring from the Underground Church is: ‘Don’t abandon us!’” He was specifically sent to the Western church, by the persecuted Christians, to share the atrocities of Communism and to tell of the believer’s desperate need. Tortured for Christ is one fulfillment of this specific mission.…

    Corruption In Zeitoun

    • 731 Words

The first time readers become aware of this is on Tuesday September, 6 on page 212. Zeitoun along with his friends living in the house on Claiborne are all arrested and driven to a terminal a few blocks from the Superdome. From there, they are told they are under arrest because they are ‘Al Qaeda’. However much the evidence may have pointed towards this being a correct statement, the men had committed no crime, had not been processed correctly, and had not been allowed to make a call. All evidence of the government being corrupt during this time. Another example brought to reader’s attention is a man Abdulrahman Zeitoun meets at the Hunt Correctional Center. “He met a man who said he had been moving furniture in his house just after the storm hit. The police spotted him and broke in. When the protested his innocence they beat him up and left. A few days later, he came to the Greyhound Station to complain. They arrested him and sent him to Hunt” (Eggers 258). This ridiculous behavior during a time of crisis is unacceptable and shows how the government was…

Immediately highlighting the problem of sin separating us from God within the general Christian worldview. After this, a church member took place at the podium and read a passage from the bible. The chapter and verses were never clarified, and the story was hard to follow, but I believe it was the story of a mother trying to convince her son to give his life to the king. During the reading, the congregation had books from which they read out responses. When the reading was over, the gentleman sat down, and the reverend made his way across the room to the podium. He spoke of the story from the reading as one of the darkest times in ancient Jewish history, and likened it to what is happening with ISIS today. As he finished his sermon, we stood, and the reverend walked back to the altar area and sat down, and we were…

It was Saturday, July 13, 2013, I was looking over my notes for the sermon I would preach the next day when the verdict came in on George Zimmerman. It was very rare that I deviate from a particular subject unless I am spiritually led. But all that changed after having learned that George Zimmerman was found not guilty of the slaying of Trayvon Martin. It was difficult for me to stand that morning as Reverend or Pastor. In my role as Pastor, there was an expectation. Unfortunately, I came with a mixed bag of emotions. I was hurt, along with Travon Martin’s mother and father; to receive the double blow of not only losing their son now the reality that there may be no justice for his death. I was hurt because Trayvon Martin reminded me…
