is now known as New England. The Puritans were forced out of England because they wanted to reform human civilization through religion by demolishing poverty, to create a paradise on Earth in which everyone was free to discover the will of God for themselves. These were not general goals established. The Puritans believed that not every religion diligently applied and would result in such a paradise. They believed that only their vision of restructuring the Anglican Christianity could put such goals within reach.
In their world of European and English Christianity, the Puritans were the only group campaigning for an end to poverty, the only group challenging that all people, including women, be taught how to read (so they would be able to read the Bible, God’s word), and encouraged members to work hard individually to make positive enhancement in the world. Puritans expected to live exemplary lives in every respect so that anyone comes in contact with them be it customers, friends, or even strangers would see God through them, and gain the inspiration to seek God for themselves. The Puritans in New England transmit their intentions clearly as they possibly could that people of other faiths were not welcome. They did not hide their hostility to outside religious presence. When people of other faiths insisted on entering New England, the Puritans became enraged. In this imperfect world, the Puritans believed that their religion was the only one that could save the by actively restructuring their faith. By fleeing England the Puritans believed protect their faith and would not be weakened or destroyed. Their hope is that eventually the religion would grow so strong that when England was destroyed by God for its apostasy, the fugitive Puritans would be left to re-establish Christian civilization.
