One of the major pieces of evidence which shows that the United States government has successfully improved wildlife’s living conditions in Yellowstone National Park is the act which turned Yellowstone into a national park. Making this fascinating landscape a national park protected the park from urbanization. During some of the many expeditions around Yellowstone, explorers “realized that this land of fire and ice and wild animals needed to be preserved”(“Birth of a National Park”). This point of view was shared by many visitors and persuaded the public into going against developing Yellowstone. For example, John Colter, an explorer whose fantastic stories about Yellowstone inspired others to seek out this land, which further inspired others who dreamed of making Yellowstone a national park (Macdonald, James S.). The idea of a new way to conserve such a fascinating place was established by the U.S. Congress and was signed into law by the president at the time, Ulysses S. Grant. Three major laws that have made the most impact on the animals are hunting, fishing and arms regulations. By making hunting illegal, the animals can live in a safer, less violent environment. (“Laws and Policies”). This regulation is very critical in making the living conditions of the animals better. By making hunting animals in the park's borders illegal, the government ensures the safety of inhabiting wildlife from humans. This proves how the government has improved the wildlife’s living condition as they are protecting them from humans, because of this, animals won’t see humans as threats so they won’t be afraid and constantly scared and insecure. Fishing regulations prevent fishermen from killing native fish they catch, or returning them to a body of water they didn’t come from (“Regulations”). The government has ensured the safety of the fish as they have prevented fishermen from killing these fish. Although the fishermen can still fish in bodies of water of Yellowstone, they may not kill the fish they catch. Some people may think that fish will still be harmed during the process of fishing them, but requirements such as barbless hooks, non-toxic split-shots, line size requirements, hook size requirements, and many others ensure that the fish will safely return to the water.
