A hero is a person that does something selfless. In the Messenger, Mattie sacrificed himself by healing the Forest for everything and everyone he loved. Even though humans or animals don't have powers, the idea is the same. In the movie October Skies, Homer Hickam goes to work in the coal mines for money because his dad got injured by saving someone
else's life. He also sacrificed his own happiness and education for his brother so that he wouldn't lose his scholarship. Heroism isn't all about having huge muscles and beating up bad guys, it's about sacrifice and people you love.
Heroes sacrifice and have/make themselves unhappy for others to become happy. Like Jill Cook, for example, who sacrificed herself to save a child from a truck going 46 mph. She broke her pelvis, right knee, tibia, fibula, and five ribs. Heroes don't always have to be human. One night a kid was home alone and heard something downstairs, so he went to check it out, and it was a burglar. The burglar grabbed the kid's arm and was about to hurt him but his cocker-spaniel mix bit the burglar's arm. So, he let go of the boy's arm and ran away.
A hero is a person who sacrifices themselves for loved ones or a strange, but a hero doesn't always have to sacrifice themselves. Being a hero could range from just giving a homeless person food or money to saving someone's life. Heroism is just an act of selflessness that benefits another person. You don't have to be a man to be a hero, nor do you have to be human either. (dogs, animals, etc..)
