We can no longer just hide the dark side within us because it is a part of who we are and what we are. If we only show the good bright side of things, we are only kidding ourselves and accepting the oppression which we live in. this is not a way to live, and therefore freeing ourselves through literature and art makes us no different than a man.
Women seemed to keep their emotions capped and bottled inside, but through all of that they realized that expressing their emotion in paper could be liberating internally. The work of these women can be seen through their poetry and writing. Other women can relate and the hurt, pain, sadness, and happiness could all be felt. The Woman’s Building in Los Angeles, California was originally established to promote and showcase the artistic skill of women. Many galleries and museums at the time would not showcase art from women, or would have very few of them. This building allowed not only for the showcase of their art but also allowed from women that were interested in that fields of visual arts, graphic art, and art history. Later it was expanded to also create more expansive educational experiences such as in literature.
