When Tom Robinson was accused of rape he was taken to court to be tried, there he spent the remainder jail free part of his life. When the jury came in to deliver the verdict they did not look at Tom Robinson, so this made everyone think he was not guilty because, “A jury never looks at a defendant if it’s convicted” (282). But when Judge Taylor was “polling the jury guilty… guilty…. guilty and guilty” (282) this led to the sad fate of Tom Robinson. Tom represents the Mockingbird because, he did not do anything harmful but try to help people. Through these events Lee uses what Atticus said about “it being a sin to kill a Mockingbird” (119) to represent innocence through Tom Robinson
