Like federal agencies, the United States also has State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies. The local police are municipal, county, and city police officers whose purpose is to uphold the laws of their specific jurisdiction, provide patrol, and keep the community safe. State police patrol the highway and they conduct statewide investigations. We also have the county officers and they are people who runs the local jails and work the courtrooms. State and local law enforcement officers main goal is to protect the community. Local officers are your everyday police officers whose job duty is to focus on patrolling the area they are assigned to and this is sometimes in certain jurisdictions. Also, they oversee responding to calls and enforcing laws.
A sheriff is an elected county official in the courtroom and the control the courtroom and oversee the public. They also communicate with everyone in the courtroom. All these agencies are important in the United States because each and everyone of them are required to do certain tasks to protect the county. For the agencies on the federal level, they are really the big-time people because they deal with the issues federally. For the local and state agencies, they have a certain jurisdiction of concern but they still the important people when dealing with issues concerning their jurisdiction. All the agencies face so much controversy because there has been plenty of situations where some police officers has been accused of using excessive force which in some incidents led to the death of the citizen. While being on duty, an officer is supposed to follow the guidelines of there duty. There are standard police practices out there that the officers are supposed to follow always.
