Law Enforcement Agencies Essay Example
The duties, functions, and responsibilities of Local Law Enforcement agencies are as follows: Arresting law violators, performing routine patrol, investigating crimes, enforcing traffic laws (including parking violations), providing crowd and traffic control at parades and other public events, and issuing special licenses and permits. The Sheriff’s office may perform duties such as; coroners, court attendants, and civil processes, as well as law enforcement officers. They respond to complaint calls, protecting the public, patrolling the streets, being a hindrance to crime to keep vigil patrols in high crime areas. They uphold the law. Meaning they have to go by State laws and cannot over ride the State laws. They respond to citizens complaints, investigate crimes, and assist both State and Federal authorities in helping to investigate crimes.
The duties, functions, and responsibilities of the State Law Enforcement are as follows: They provide escort and body guard services to the governor and the vice governor. They also provide security for the properties they live in. The State Police investigates arson investigations and homicides. When they are not doing these, they are performing similar duties as opposed to the Local Law Enforcement.
The major differences between the two are: The State Police conducts investigations of arsons, and murders. They also have crime labs for Forensic testing. The Local Police Agencies rely on the State for these testing’s.
The three Federal Law Enforcement Agencies are: FBI, CIA, and the ATF.
FBI: They uphold the laws of the United States. They supersede Local and State laws and investigates all Federal crimes. They investigate crimes on Federal land, and prosecute individuals under Federal laws. They also take over investigations from Local and State Agencies if the investigation includes a Federal Fugitive.
CIA: They uphold national security for the United States. They do intelligence work in other countries to gain

    To mention some of the organizations in the department of homeland security are Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
