Firefighting is subdivided into 4 main disciplines and they are structural, wildland, aircraft, and shipboard. The first is structural, this group is the most recognized out of the four. They respond to house fires, buildings, these are in cities and towns. They carry water, use hoses, and ladder trucks to locate and extinguish the fire. Much of their job is rescue since the buildings they go into are inhabited by people and animals. Second is wildland fire, their job is to put out and stop wildfires from taking place. They use helicopters to dump water on the flames, and smoke jumpers to get to hard to reach places. Smoke jumpers are the men who jump out of helicopters using parachutes to land on top of mountains to create a line to stop the progression of the fire. These firefighters also know how to fight structural fires in houses that are in the path of the fire. Wildland fires are usually on the plains and mountains out west where there is a lot of brush and dry things for the fire to burn. Next is aircraft firefighting, these firefighters need to use foam to smother the fire and deprive it of oxygen. If they were to use water it would spread the flame since most aircraft fires are burning fuel. These fires are in tight spaces and must be fought quickly. Lastly is shipboard fire, these are similar to structural fires, except they're in a more confined space with nowhere for
