I had never heard of the Andrea Yates case until now. After doing some research I learned that Andrea Yates was a mother that killed all five of her children by drowning them because she believed that if she didn’t her kids were going to go to hell. Andrea had also claimed to be a bad mother and after killing her children she called her husband and the police telling them that “it’s time.” Once the police came Andrea had admitted to everything and told the police that she needs to be punished. She went to trial and then went to a mental hospital.…
The world is full of camera phones, different social media outlets, and the work of law enforcement is not hidden anymore, the general public can see the police officers performing their jobs. However, those officers quick to use gun or Taser lack the skills in de-escalation when dealing with a minor hostile situation. Nevertheless, the case of Bryan v. McPherson was related to a situation of officer Brian McPherson and motorist Carl Bryan, which Mr. Bryan was pulled over and issued a citation early that same day and headed to southern California from Camarillo to Coronado.…
Picture A. The scopes trial- A high school teacher by the name of John Thomas Scopes was charged and fined because he had started teaching his students of evolution theory. It doesn’t seem like a big deal at all except that at this time the Butlers Act was taking place which forbid exactly was Mr. scopes taught.…

Believe it or not, it was once illegal to teach the theory of evolution to children in school. A teacher in Tennessee named John Scopes had violated this law in the 1900s, which resulted in the John Scopes trial. This trial marked the shift of the beliefs of Americans from religion to science. Scientific research has been going on for decades and it has, for the most part, helped improve our lives, but it is a very tough field. In The Great Influenza, author John M. Barry used juxtaposition, listing, and structure to characterize scientific research as a challenging and uncertain field that requires a lot of courage to accept defeat, but also have the determination…
Living in a town filled with extremely religious people, Cates and Drummond obviously know that it’s nearly impossible to win such a case. However, that doesn’t stop them from trying to get their point across, especially not Drummond. He is determined to have everyone acknowledge and understand his reasoning, rather than letting him stick to the idea that the Bible is right about everything, but that the theory of Evolution is absurd and sac religious. In the text Drummond says, “It’s bad enough that everybody coming into the courtroom has to walk underneath a banner that says: ‘Read Your Bible!’ Your Honor, I want that sign taken down! Or else I want another one put up – just as big, just as big letters – saying ‘Read Your Darwin!’” By saying this, Drummond is already showing an example of “staying the same” vs. “progress.” Even if the “Read Your Bible!” sign isn’t taken down, Drummond still wants to see some type of alteration by adding the “Read Your Darwin!” sign, to try to get Darwin’s ideas in peoples’ heads, too.…

The Scopes Trial is one of the most known trials in American history. It is one of the most known because it is the perfect example of the conflict between science and religion. In the summer of 1925, a high school biology teacher named John Scopes was on trial in Dayton, Tennessee for violating the law against the teaching of evolution. The prosecutor was a very famous attorney named William Jennings Bryan, who was a three-time Democratic presidential nominee. Clarence Darrow, who was agnostic, represented the defense. The American Civil Liberties Union had newspaper advertisements offering to defend anyone who violated the law. George Rappelyea, a Dayton booster, realized that the town would get an enormous amount of attention if a teacher…
The most famous trial being the Scopes trial, which effected the education system afterwards due to its intense trail known as Darrow vs Bryan and even the odd conversation that sparked the whole fight.
