In 1864 after Edvard was born all of his family moved Kristiania, the capital of Norway. Soon after that Edvard got interested in artworks, but his parents told him to focus on something else. After he graduated he left for college where he wanted to become an engineer then after a while he fought his true calling was art.
Edvard dropped out of college and went to the Royal drawing school in Oslo. In 1881 he was at the school full time. Edvard was a very quick learner and was one of the most gifted young artists at the school. In 1893 Edward Munch created The Scream but, not only one but four versions of it. One of two versions from 1893 is in the National Gallery of Oslo. The Munch Museum holds the other version. The fourth version was sold to Leon Black and he bought it for $119,922,500 dollars. It is the world record for the most expensive painting bought. The last version was made in 1895, which was created on lithograph stone. There where approximately 4 dozen copies made but only seven survived.
People say that The Scream represents Munch’s illness, death and grief about his family. All of his family are dead. His mother died when Edvard Munch was only five from tuberculosis.
