Within the first couple chapters Lily Owens narrates the complex relationship between her and her dad. After he stated blaming Lily for his wife’s death Lily started feeling a little defeated. “When I looked outside, I knew I would have to make my way by starlight” (Kidd 100). This quote can be viewed as Lily doesn’t need to have T-Ray to help guide her in life and showing how Lily is more than capable to be just fine with people that love and care about her. Lily and T-Ray never had the greatest relationship but in the end, things could have changed a long the way.
What I took from reading this wonderful novel was that major life events can alter the way you think or act on something but rising above the challenges will be more beneficial in the long run as Lily Owens demonstrates. She really changed her relationship with her father and learned to help people like Rosaleen, the maid and also herself along the
