The Sermon On The Mount
There are many places throughout the Bible where mountains play an important role. From the flood, Mount Ararat was the place that the arc settled on when the waters went down. Abraham was told to go up to the top of a mountain in the land of Moriah to sacrifice his son to The Lord. Christ was transfigured on, you guessed it, a mountaintop. In fact, one of the most prolific and well known sermons in the Bible, if not the most well known, is actually referred to as "The Sermon on the Mount". A mountain is a thing that takes determination to climb, and is where God would call those people with whom He needed to talk. Mountains are generally considered to be holy ground, and there is one mountain in particular that comes to mind when we think …show more content…
This is the highest peak in the range, (Schaff-Herzog encyclopedia) and is also thought to be a better guess as the peak, simply based upon the fact that it's higher than the rest of the peaks. There is a monastery on top of this peak, and has been there continually since the time when it is believed that, approximately 1400 years ago, Saint Catherine was executed and her body vanished. It is a tradition held that angels took her body to the top of this mountain, and thus it was named after her. A third peak in this same mountain range is called Ras al-Safsafah, or "Peak of the Willow Tree", which has its own place in the running for the Biblical Mount Sinai, with its large area at its base, which would be an ideal place for the children of Israel to camp out for all of this time. Another interesting option, and one that is located outside of the Sinatic Peninsula, is Mount Yeroham. This mountain is actually just West and South of the Dead Sea. This peak is the right distance from Egypt yet not found in Midian, which would disqualify it from the running. (Num 10:29, 30) The mountain is located in the northern Negev, so it passes this location test. There was more than enough space for the people to camp out in, and an abundance of water in the area. There were also many pottery shards located in the area, as there would have been found at a campsite of this magnitude that was camped out …show more content…
However studying the subject has led me to believe that there are too many problems with such a conclusion to be reached soundly. I understand that Galatians 4:24, 25 state that Mount Sinai was located in Arabia, but it is not safe for us to assume that the same borders are in place today, that were in place during the days of Paul. As we can see however, Mount Yeroham is on the very edge of the Biblical borders of Arabia, which just further shows in my mind that this is the true Mount Sinai of the

Some of the more remarkable archaeological discoveries in the 20th century were made by Dame Kathleen Kenyon. Kathleen Kenyon was born into the heart of the English scholarly community and with all the help that influence and connections could provide became one of the foremost excavators in Great Britain. Even though Miss Kenyon was purported to be a Christian, she did not argue for the biblical account perspective when referencing her excavations. She believed that archaeology was needed to prove the historicity of the Bible; but more importantly, that archaeology was needed to aid us in the interpretation of the "older parts of the Old Testament, which from the nature of their sources cannot be read as a straightforward record (Kenyon, 266). Remembered for her substantial contributions to the field of archaeology Miss. Kenyon brought with her refined versions of the excavation method pioneered by Mortimer Wheeler. Along with inventing field methods that strengthened the science, Kathleen shaped the discipline of archaeology with her contribution to institutions, training of future archaeologists and publications. Another important aspect of Kathleen Kenyon's archaeological career was her role as a teacher. From 1948 to 1962 she lectured in Levantine Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. Kenyon's teaching, complemented by her excavations at Jericho and Jerusalem (which successively formed her 'field school'), helped to train a generation of archaeologists, who went on themselves to teach in Britain, Australia, Canada, the United States, Denmark and elsewhere.…

First the paper will focus on the southern site named Bab edh-Dhra, and then an analysis of the Tall el-Hammam will be done. Bab edh-Dhra is the excavated site along the Valley of Siddom, South of the Dead Sea. Many proponents of this site suggest that this site is located precisely on the eastern fault, which provides evidence for it’s destruction.[1] Furthermore, they indicate that the Bible historically supports this location in Genesis 13:10, Genesis 14:10 and Genesis 19:24. J. Penrose Harland explains that an overall agreement between the southern supporters and northern supporters is that the cities of the Plain are to be found in Ghor, or Valley of the Jordan and the Dead Sea. However, Harland states, “the…

Leaders of the United Nations chose this day, Dec. 11, to bring attention to the importance of mountains in everyday life. A quarter of the earth’s surface juts with mountains of all shapes and sizes, providing fresh water for over half of the world’s population, a plethora of minerals, and habitats enabling biodiversity and minerals. As perpetrators of climate change and resources for goods like honey, cocoa, herbs and spices, mountains prominently influence people’s lives around the globe whether we are aware of it or not.…

The famous Sermon on the Mount delivered by Jesus is considered to be one of the main focal points of the entire religions moral belief system. It delivers many applicable methods to approach salvation and the lifestyles choices/fruits that come along with embracing God’s grace and sacrifice. Jesus gave this sermon at an early point during His ministry. In the previous two chapters, Jesus was baptized, gathered His disciples and gained more of a following throughout Syria. Once Jesus noticed his following, He traveled up the mountain and began teaching His disciple’s. I think that specific part at the beginning of verse two in chapter five is extremely important. It shows that Jesus is targeting only His specific group of followers yet it ended with a a large amount of people that came to listen. This sermon shows great symbolism of how actual salvation works. It is made for the specific but is offered to many.…
