The Seven C's Of The Social Change Model
Leadership and the process to create change are two concepts that are used to complement each other and shows up in environments that student leaders are active in on campus. In the three case studies the focus will be on the social change model and how the seven essential parts of the model are used my student leaders and can be utilized in a higher education background to create sustainable chance for students on different types of colleges. Within exploring the seven c’s of the social change model will be addressed on how this applies to the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center and how they play out in their position at the center.

In Higher education people work closely with students to make sure that they succeed at their own measure of what success looks like for the student. When it comes to working with students or recruiting students for the university every student will come from a different background and upbringing. In the different departments that operate under higher education and student affairs there is a hierarchy set in place with the position and must again reflect of different parts of the model around what is considered their common purpose and what type of congruence is being brought to the students within their position. The social change model is meant to promote values that can be gained around social justice, advocacy, empowerment and citizenship. These values connect with those in higher education when it comes to empowering students and to create a sense of citizenship from the town that must students will spend a portion of their college career. The Social change model overall goal is for students to create positive change but, there are some inconsistency when we look at the type of diverse identities that show up on campus and the lack of talk when it comes to the over power plays that students of color and with other marginalized identities when it comes to creating positive

    A transformational leader is an in “who inspires followers to achieve extraordinary outcomes while also helping to develop the individual leadership skills of their followers” (Bass,2008)(Burton, Damon, & Peachy, 2015). Within each author’s respected book, either it is Gardner who tells the stories of leaders such as Civil Rights leader and activist, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought for justices and equality for all while teaching his followers of equality, civil disobedience and nonviolence (Gardner, 1990) is one example of a transformation leader in his book who emphasizes that the success of a leader equates to the success of their followers.     However, as we have seen with divest campaigns, black lives matter discussions and pressures for undocumented rights, we as student activist have also see how the college fails to keep its words on the values it holds. I think this has been something that has really been apparent me as so many students not only see their education as an investment but also feel that the college only see’s us as financial investments. One discussion I have had over and over again with students activists and not is the ways in which with campaigns like “Women for the World” there is an implicit notion that we are not only to be successful because of smith but we are expected to give back and carry the smith name with us wherever we go. We are in a lot of ways seen as an investment, but at the same time an investment that can only expect certain things, not including the demands that students of color, and student activist have been asking for for years. In order to be successful in today 's global community, the growing need to provide innovative solutions is a prerequisite. Innovation is seen as an opportunity for education to be competitive and prepared to develop the future of our society to be able to be a global competitor. The change in business-as-usual directly correlates to the growth in the global economy. Many of the new models of innovation within business integrate innovation to be seen as a force of change, an ability to extend organizational capabilities, and meet the needs of the clientele (GCU, 2012). Two leadership models are at the forefront of this growth of innovative thinking, or what education organizations label as 21st century skills.     Environmental awareness has been a deep concern and arising issue that has crept up slowly due to mass industrialization.
