The seventh man had lived in the town from birth but was not completely aware of the effects and stages of a typhoon. When he sensed a change in the weather and waves he yelled to K to leave but he was too involved in an object he saw. The seventh man sensed a wave and planned on saving K but his fear and flight or fight response told him to run. He mostly blamed…

The seventh man should forgive himself for his failure to save K. in the wave. I am sure of this because even tho the seventh man will feel it was his fault, it wasn’t, it was K.’s fault for being out in the dangerous storm in the first place. “Many rescue workers have lost their own lives saving others.” as stated in the story, “The Cost Of Survival”.…

In conclusion, the narrator should be able forgive himself for what happened that day when K and him decided to go out in the ocean by themselves in the eye of the storm. Overall, it was a horrible day, it was his best friend, and it was the image that has been scared into his brain for the rest of his life since he was ten. But that doesn’t mean the narrator should be beating himself up over something that happened 40 years ago. He should be able to come to the realization that K is gone. K is not coming back. K was the person that left such a big impact on his life… that should be something to look back on and smile and just think of all the good times that h has shared with K. To most people, water is a solitary symbol of peace and happiness, sometimes reminding people of vacation at the beach or a nice bath. To the seventh man, it meant regret and death. In his adult life, he is reminded of his friend’s death every night when he shut his eyes, only seeing the last glimpse of K smiling in the wave on the beach. “I wake up in the darkness, screaming, breathless, drenched in sweat.” He is now an old man and will not let anyone sleep with him; he is scared he will awake them in the night with his screams. He believes he keeps having this recurring dream because K is mad at him for only saving himself and not his best friend being swept into the ocean. “I wouldn’t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats and wouldn’t take a plane to go abroad.” The deep water scared him, triggering him of the deep ocean water that K would forever be lost in. This turns out to be his greatest…

He seems to be thankful for his accomplishments he has gained over his lifetime as a sailor. Although he missed out on a life with others, his life “flourished” (83) by being alone. He also ponders on the reasons why he chose to do the things in life that he did rather than just living a simple life like most people. He came in search of “Gold” (85) and riches as well as a new foreign land but instead found nothing but himself, a broken self but still found the man he is. The sea-man tries to regret the life he chose. He realizes instead of looking for a home he should have been focused on getting home or “heaven” (101). Even if he would have become very wealthy it still would not have helped him in the real life goal which would have been to make it to the “rises of heaven” (104). This means he must first be unhidden with “God” (102) to make it…
