“Bah, Humbug”, we all commonly know this saying by heart, but don’t you ever wonder maybe there is a little more to this story than just ink on a paper. There has been countless makings of movies and plays for this one story by Charles Dickens. In this masterpiece an old man named Scrooge is a cold-hearted old man who despises Christmas, then on Christmas Eve night he is visited by his old partner in business who died several years ago. His business partner (Marley) warns him that three spirits will visit him and if he doesn’t change his way he will end up like Marley. Everyone can change how they act, but not who they are.

At first Scrooge doesn't seem very frightened by this and thought it was a joke but then as the clock struck midnight

The Spirit is putting a dust on people and their food. When Scrooge asks what this powder is the Spirit says that he is blessing them. They walk to Bob Cratchit's house and go in. There they find the Cratchit family preparing a meal for themselves. A daughter of Bob has come home from a business trip to earn more money for the poor family. When Bob comes home they all eat the small turkey. When it comes to dessert the only thing they have to eat is a very small pudding the share. After the Spirit has blessed them they head out to his nephew Fred’s. There they enter and see that are sitting on coaches and conversinsing. They listen to the group of Fred’s friends complain about his uncle Scrooge. Fred stands up for Scrooge saying that he refuses to have joy on Christmas but one year he will see the joy in it and until then he said he would wait for him to turn around. When they go back outside Scrooge notices that the Spirit of Christmas Present looks much older and tired. They talk and Scrooge’s eyes yet again catch something odd about the Spirit. This was that Scrooge did NOT appreciate anything he had in his life. Throughout the beginning of the story, Scrooge took everything for granted. Of course, Scrooge could not realize this because his greed for money took over his soul. He was so caught up in making money, that he did not take a look around him to understand that he was blessed with a loyal clerk, a prosperous company, and a jolly relative still alive. The motif that Scrooge didn’t appreciate him clearly ties back with the chosen passage. This is because when Marley comes to tell Scrooge about the three ghosts, the ghosts will turn him into a more cheerful, appreciative, person. This is also the first part in the story when Scrooge has an opportunity to realize that Marley was such a great friend and partner to him.…

Scrooge is a very grumpy, old man. The text refers to his frosty rime on his head, meaning, he had light grey hair. Scrooge had thin eyebrows and spoke shrewdly with his wiry chin. Scrooge was a glum, isolated man that thought Christmas was an overrated event. He only really cares about business and himself. This is so much so the text directly states he struggled to let his employee off work for Christmas, but when he did he gave him half pay. But he was met by his old, dead business partner as a ghost. The ghost told him that he was going to witness three spirits that will help redirect his dark ways. He was so very dark that on page two it suggests that the dogs that guide the blind say, that no eyes at all are better than evil eyes,…

He discovers Bob Cratchit's crippled son, Tiny Tim, a courageous boy whose kindness and humility warms Scrooge's heart. The specter then zips Scrooge to his nephew's to witness the Christmas party. Scrooge finds the jovial gathering delightful and pleads with the spirit to stay until the very end of the festivities. As the day passes, the spirit ages, becoming noticeably older. “Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values” says Thomas S. Monson. This is one intricate message that Ebenezer Scrooge failed to grasp. Ebenezer Scrooge is the narcissistic, avaricious protagonist in Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. To start off, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of Christmas yet to come. Each of these three spirits exemplifies a different time in his penurious life. As an attempt to change Scrooge, all of the three spirits…

In the play, Scrooge is a greedy, self centered man who cares for nothing but money and himself. His old, dead friend and partner, Marley, visits Scrooge in the night to tell him to change. Marley sends three spirits to haunt Scrooge to enforce that change. Scrooge is shown his past by the Spirit of Christmas Past. Past shows Scrooge a Christmas long ago where he is alone in the school house. “The schoolroom is not quite deserted. A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.” (Charles Dickens #) Scrooge is then shown an older boy of himself, but still alone and Fan, Scrooge’s sister, comes to bring Scrooge home. Past shows Scrooge where he was apprenticed. Scrooge is then shown his old loved one and it is shown that they separate forever. Scrooge is taken back home, but he does not believe what happened and at one o'clock, the Spirit of Christmas Present comes and shows Scrooge the present Christmas. In Charles Dickens’ novella ‘A Christmas Carol’, Ebenezer Scrooge’s transforms himself from an undesirable, self-centred old man to a gentleman with characterisations to exemplify that the most valuable things in life are those which are not tangible; family, friends, love and happiness. The protagonist had the ability to help the unfortunate and deprived Cratchit’s; he also had the obligation to help society, consequently altering into a generous, giving man. Scrooge’s decision to change was also purely selfish, due to the thought of losing his wealth.…
