The Snows Of Kilimanjaro, By Ernest Hemingway
I loved my first son, but I never thought much of my first wife. I divorced Elizabeth and married my second wife, Pauline. Pauline was great and I moved with her to Key West, where I lived on and off for about 10 years (Shmoop). I completed a majority of my life writing in this home and became very successful during this time. As always, I became bored with my life and decided to travel to Spain once again to research bullfighting for a nonfiction book I wanted to write. I published Death in the Afternoon. This book was nothing special, but I did have fun doing it (Literary Cavalcade). After this publication, I continued my adventures and traveled to Africa for ten week Kenyan safari. Oh, how I loved this continent. This was something I truly did love. “My subsequent trips there inspired many works of fiction and nonfiction, including the 1935 book Green Hills of Africa and the short stories "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The …show more content…
I gained awards in the Armed Forces; the Silver Medal of Military Valor and the Bronze Star in the United States Armed Forces. These two medals are something I am actually happy about to have in my possession for my bravery and commitment. I have awards for being the reporter I was in my early years. I have awards in Literature such as the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize. (Shmoop) I have done many things in my life, but I am best known for my writing. Perhaps my work, The Old Man and the Sea is what I am best known for. This story uses my “Iceberg Effect” style of writing and intertwines the theme of depression and loss. Not far behind I would say, is my romance novel, A Farewell To Arms. This story was truly difficult. It was heartbreaking to write. Along with novels, I have written many short stories that are well known. I am glad to be able to say that I am not just an author, but one that is known for accomplishing more than one thing in life (Encyclopedia of World

The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1). Immediately, this hook does its job drawing the reader into the story and making him wonder what is going on. In the same paragraph we find that Tub is walking down the street, carrying a rifle and seemingly, shooting the breeze. But then a car comes from nowhere, nearly killing Tub and forcing him to leap off the roadside. Inside the truck, Tub's friends, Kenny and Frank, wait laughing at the apparent "joke" that they had just played. Tub doesn't seem quite as amused, stating, "You could've killed me!" (Wolff 5). Then, the three friends begin to make their way towards the woods to go hunting for…

I chose to elaborate on the theological points of Zora Neale Hurston “Sweats”. She uses theological references to create a parallel between the characters in sweat and biblical figures to expand the ethics issues present in the text. Through references to master or slave relationships and religious symbolism, Hurston also takes the struggle and triumph of feminism. Sweat is filled with symbols such as the Garden of Eden, snakes, white clothing and Satan. Delia carries the theme of faith through each challenge she faces.…

INTO THE WORLD "If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed. " We create meaning of our ideas and carefully communicate them to our readers so as to leave the most lasting impact. The novel "Into the Wild" is one that is significant because of how effectively Jon Krakauer took Christopher McCandless relationships, struggles and adventures and developed them into a well written novel, which to say the least left a lasting impression on its readers. It is a great story meant to inspire.…

There is a very thin line between the person who you were and the person that you are right now. As humans, we experience millions of events that can affect and change our perspective on aspects throughout the course of our lives. Similar to caterpillars, we cannot be innocent and childish forever. There is a time for everybody to transform into something beautiful, and everybody’s time is different. Change can be good or bad, but most importantly, change helps us grow and become the people we were meant to be. How are we supposed to mature and enjoy our lives if we cannot accept the differences that life presents? For many people, metamorphosing is difficult because sometimes it can be a challenge to let go of something that was always a part of ourselves, such as letting go of a teddy bear, or a blanket, but for other people, it can be almost instantaneous.…

The ground is frozen, parents weep over their children, stomachs void, rigid bodies huddle together to stay warm. This was a reoccurring scene during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel’s Night describes the horror of what the Holocaust did, not only to the Jews, but to humanity. The disturbing neglect the Nazi party had for human beings, and the human body itself, still to this day, intensifies the fear in the hearts of many. Men, woman, and children alike witnessed selfish, dehumanizing acts, the deaths of their friends and family, and not only the loss of faith in God, but in everything.…

    1. “ The shadows beside me awoke as from a long sleep. They fled, silently, in all directions.” (Wiesel pg 12)- Personification. Wiesel uses this deep personification with a hint of symbolism to give the effect that shadows can wake up just as living organisms do. Yet a shadow is non-living and cannot truly wake up. At the time of Wiesel’s choice of personification, his whole family has just heard news that they are to leave their home in the morning. He is told by his father to wake up the neighbors, but instead shadows are the only things that wake. This somewhat hints at the profound deeper meaning of where they are actually going to be taken and how that might affect them.…

Cattle cars. Burning bodies. Auschwitz. These words are engraved in the mind of every Jewish person on Earth. After decades, Holocaust survivors still have nightmares about these thoughts. One word, one indescribable word, will forever stay with these people. Holocaust. Many people of the Jewish faith realize the power of that word, but many others still need to learn. A man is sitting peacefully in his home; he has no worries, even when Nazi soldiers dragged him into the horrendous ghettos. He also willfully went into cattle cars, and then finally into Auschwitz. This is where that man realized that his life became horrible. Throughout the months in the work camp, throughout all of the suffering, his will to survive surpassed the will to kill of Nazi soldiers. Years later, people know that events like the Holocaust will, and are happening right now, such as the Bosnian Genocide 1992. Education also will get rid of the desire for power in human beings. Educating students about the Holocaust, and other genocides, will help prevent genocides in future generations. Man has the will to survive and surpass evil like the Holocaust survivors, genocides like this will happen again, and education will help prevent genocides in the future.…

During the Holocaust, several Jewish communities were invaded by German forces. These communities were shattered. The towns were safely settled one day. The next day they were being deported to concentration camps such as Auschwitz and Buchenwald. In 1944, this is precisely what occurred to the community of Jews in Sighet, Transylvania, including a boy named Elie Wiesel. Wiesel depicts the story of his time during the Holocaust in his novel, Night. In Night, Elie was taken from everything he knew, his home, his family, his friends, and his spiritual mentor. The time spent at the camps transformed him into someone he could not recognize. He lost his family by both emotional and physical separation. The faith Elie once had in humanity, God, and himself slowly slipped through his thin fingers as time passed in the camps, and Elie would never be the same.…
