Provision of new social housing SUPPLY- is the first pillar which includes the provision of 35,000 social housing units through a variation of different mechanisms. This was central in my examination as it proved that the policy has a clear number of social housing units that it wishes to achieve for 2020. The three pillars of the social housing strategy proved to be central in my evaluation of the policy as they gave me a clear look into the future of the policy and its framework. Therefore I found that the policy is clearly structured and has a clear structure to achieve its overall aim, to provide every household with a suitable home. On my examination, the level of homelessness will be greatly reduced alongside the level of anti-social behaviour.
The social housing budget has dropped from €1.7b in 2008 to some €597m in 2014. This is clear evidence that the idea of providing social housing has decreased dramatically over the last number of years and therefore the new social housing strategy is evidentially necessary. The policy intends to reverse this trend implemented by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government and furthermore the actions will then be carried out by a newly established project
