The Song Of The Trees By Mildred Taylor
How does literature reflect life? Literature reflects life in many ways. I think the story song of the trees teaches some very valuable lessons. Here are two themes that are in the story, never give up and some things are more valuable than money. In every story, there is a lesson or theme. The short story “The Song of the Trees by Mildred Taylor, reflects life through the development of the two themes, never give up and somethings are more important than money.
I feel that the theme never give up is emphasized in this short story. In many parts of the story, the Logan family seems to keep going and not giving up. When Mr. Anderson threatened to hurt them if they didn't agree on letting him cut down some of the trees, they had to agree but only because they had a plan. Big Ma and Mama knew they couldn't do anything about the situation

The Logan family needed the money from Mr. Anderson, the trees they just could not give him, they meant to much to the family even if it might just look like trees. When papa threatened Mr. Anderson that he would blow up the forest, Mr. Anderson told his workers to load up the logs they had already cut down, Papa refused to let Mr. Anderson take the trees so Mr. Anderson offered money but Papa still refused and threatened him again eventually Mr. Anderson left. Papa didn't want Mr. Anderson to do any more damage than he already did he just wanted him to get away from the forest no matter what this is how I can tell that the trees meant so much to them and papa didn't want Mr. Anderson to get his hands on them. This theme relates to many people's lives for example, if someone have something that has been given to them by someone special or something that has been passed down from generations they probably wouldn't sell it because of its sentimental value to other people it may just look like a violin or necklace but to them, it means

In this passage from “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park, the tone of the author was dramatic. One example of the author using the tone dramatic is on line 2 of the passage. “The sun was relentless and eternal” This is dramatic because the author could have said the sun was hot but they made it so perfectly explained that it is so miserable to be outside. Saying relentless is meaning the sun is consistently burning and the heat is very very strong. Using the word eternal is meaning all day the sun is shining at its brightest.…

Mary Oliver starts the poem by clarifying details about the conflict that has been troubling her and her mother. They are having financial issues, and the only way they can lessen their burden is if they sell the black walnut tree to the lumberman. However, the black walnut tree symbolizes so much more than a tree to Oliver and her mother; she doesn’t give much of an explanation about what the tree symbolizes, but we know that its roots go deep into their family history. At the end, they stay loyal to their ancestors and end up leaving the tree. Oliver uses figurative language and other literary devices such as imagery, symbolism, and diction.…

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.” (Lee, 39). Authors have the power to show us others point of view, they can put us in their shoes. Literature teaches empathy, gives us a deeper look at things. To Kill a Mockingbird and “A Bronzeville Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon” shows us things very differently than what we initially thought it would was. Things aren’t always what they seem, the truth is mostly being overshadowed by what others want it to be.…

The strongest theme in The Giving Tree would be greed since this goes through most of the book. Let’s start by saying what greed means. Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something. In literature, we find stories designed to portray human life and action through some characters who, by their words, action and reaction, convey certain messages for the purpose of education, information and entertainment. It is impossible to find a work of literature that excludes the attitudes, morale and values of the society, since no writer has been brought up completely unexposed to the world around him. What writers of literature do is to transport the real-life events in their society into fiction and present it to the society as a mirror with which people can look at themselves and make amends where necessary. Thus, literature is not only a reflection of the society but also serves as a corrective mirror in which members of the society can look at themselves and find the need for positive change. Entering college comes with a new sense of freedom to do whatever a person wants. Partying and drinking, be it legal or illegal, is one of these freedoms. Its common, even encouraged and pressured that while out we partake in drinking and getting “wasted”. This has become a common stigma about college, and binge drinking has become a serious problem on all U.S. college campus. In an attempt to bring awareness of consequences of binge drinking Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board released a series of Public Service Announcements and launched a website to educate its target young audience to be careful while drinking. The public service announcements use very specific image and text placement, typography, and color to make their message evident in the still PSAs.…

As a person treads through life, he or she will realize at one point or another that the existence of complex relationships will often have an affect on the actions of those involved. The nature of these relationships can have either a positive or negative effect on a person depending on the nature of it, or how severe its elements are. It is human nature to hold emotions inward and uphold a proud countenance; however, those who go against this natural tendency will exert a rebellion of sorts to any and every falsehood. In the poem "forgiving my father" by Lucille Clifton, the speaker describes a daughter is haunted by recollections of strife between her and her father. The speaker in the poem actually seeks to hold her father accountable for his shortcomings instead of forgiving him for his deficiencies. In the poem "My papa's waltz" by Theodore Roethke, it is clear that the papa and the child have a relationship sprinkled with fear, joy and love. Both fathers in the poems are dangerous to their child in many ways. In Clifton's poem, the speaker is in danger because of the mental distress and financial instability caused by her father. In Roethke's poem, the speaker is in danger mainly due to his father's abusive behavior.…

In the play Raisin the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, The family “Youngers” should take the money because it will make their lives better. The money given to them will create more pride and care for everyone. The family is going through tough times because they don't have a lot of money, therefore they could really use the money to support everyone so they have a nice life. In the play i agree with the option of getting the money and using it to support the entire family so they live in pride and joy without living in the white community. If they chose to take the money and leave the community it would help them alot because the area they live in they in is a bunch of racist people, and if i was living in an era with racist people and living in a white community while being black i would take the money leave and be comfortable somewhere else with money to keep everyone in their pride and joy.…
