Tree is an amazing book for children and has a great author to. While the book has several themes, the best one would be the theme of greed because this is shown through the book, it’s also one that can help your children in the future.
The strongest theme in The Giving Tree would be greed since this goes through most of the book. Let’s start by saying what greed means. Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something. In The Giver, by Lois Lowry, Jonas is hallucinating, so he doesn’t see elsewhere, and is, indeed, dying in the bitter glacial cold. Firstly, the author tells the reader that “Jonas must try to go on.” Jonas has to try, meaning that he is losing confidence. Our debilitated fellow knows that elsewhere is seizing to exist. Furthermore, on page 177, it says in the the text, “On his knees, unable to rise…”…

Jonas’s parents are important, yet minor, characters. They are similar, but very different. If they didn’t take the pill, they would never end up together. His mom’s designated job is at the Department of Law and Justice. His father works as a nurturer, taking care of young ones, and as a releaser, puncturing people and injecting them with a death serum. Since they are taking the pill, they cannot fall in love and have a romantic relationship, so they are paired to their match. It would be complex for one to assume whether or not Jonas’s parents’ matching took a long time. The only thing Lois Lowry tells readers about the time in which it takes to receive a spouse is when Jonas tells Asher, “Even the matching of spouses is given such weighty…

The Giver by Lois Lowry is about a young boy named Jonas and about the perfect community he lives in. Their life-style is a lot difference from ours because they don't get to choose what they want, they are just told to do it. They also do things differently, an example would be the way they celebrate there birthday. Every children from 12 and under celebrate there birthday on December as a community. Another difference is the way they create their family unit. They are only allowed to have a certain amount of children in their families and I know this because in the book it says “ 'Lily you know the rules.' 'Only 2 children- one male, one female- to each family unit. It was written very clearly in the rules.' ” (Lowry, 8)…

I chose The Giver by Lois Lowry because according to the American Library Association, it is one of the most challenged books in the nation. The Giver was written by Lois Lowry, published in 1993, and awarded a Newbery Medal for that year. It is a controversial book because of its violent and sexual passages that some adults have deemed inappropriate for children, as well as for its mature themes of euthanasia, infanticide, and suicide. However, I believe The Giver is a great book for children because it allows for them to learn and explore their own beliefs on controversial issues. The Giver is a deserving book for the Newbery Medal because it follows the basic guidelines of being published in English in the United States, is an “original, stand-alone work” by the author, and it also relates to young readers and contributes to American literature through its mature themes, original plot, strong, central characters, and utopia-like setting.…

The story, “The Giving Tree,” is a book written by Shel Silverstein that is about the relationship between a tree and a boy. In the beginning of the story, the boy and the tree spend a lot of time together having fun. For example, they would play hide and seek, the boy would play on the branches, and the boy would play king of the forest with the leaves of the tree. The tree would be very happy because she was interacting with the boy. Throughout the story, the boy would spend less and less time with the tree. As a result, the tree would become sad. Once in a while the boy would come back, asking for certain things, and the tree would be happy to help the boy because she loved the boy so much.…

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.” - Lois Lowry. The Giver by Lois Lowry is a novel about a boy named Jonas who begins to see his community differently. The book begins with what seems to be a perfect place; it turns out that the people in the Community are living shallow and superficial lives. As Jonas begins his work as the Receiver of Memories, he gains wisdom and through that wisdom, he begins to learn the history of the place we call planet Earth. Many may believe that the society in The Giver is inferior to ours, but I believe it is not because of spouses, jobs, and history.…

The Author Borden Deal wrote the story the Christmas Day hunt and I think the theme is things are usually not as bad as you think they are.My first reason I think that is because when he shot the dog he thought his parents were going to be really mad at him. Then on Christmas Day he was feeling really bad about his self and he was bummed that he probably would not get the bike he wanted. So when he was opening his present, he was mad because he did not get the gifts he wanted. Then he peeked out the window and saw all the hunters coming in from the hunt and he saw him dad wave him over there. So he slowly walked over there not knowing what his dad was going to say. Then his dad had him opening a little box,and guesse what was in there a little…

Killing a harmless innocent soul who chooses to do right over wrong is considered a sin. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird this innocent life is represented by a mockingbird. With the addition of these “mockingbirds,” the theme of the story as well as the meaning is better explained and understood by readers. Throughout the novel there are no real mockingbirds being killed. However, there are a number of characters used as symbolic mockingbirds such as; Jem, Atticus, and Tom Robinson. Author Harper Lee also sends a message to the readers about how society and humans interact with one another. The novel also opens up about reality and informs readers about respect, understanding,…

Freedom is a right we are born with, that cannot be taken away. We fought for our freedom so we could make our own decisions and the choices we have the right to make. In a “perfect” community though, that is not an option. Life is not about the people there, it's about sameness and safeness; and they have no freedom. In The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas lives in a community just like this where everything is assigned for them, and they have no freedom of choice. When Jonas turns 12, he gets assigned the job of the Giver, who holds all the memories of the past before life went to sameness. Jonas learns pain, warfare, death, and many emotions he never felt before through the memories he receives. When Jonas learns he's been lied to his whole life…
