The aim of “The Spirits Scream” is to explore physicality and inner spirituality of Edvard Munch. Munch was a well known Expressionist artist who developed distinctive subjective viewpoints on the world around him and aimed to spontaneously self-express through painting. Personally, my favourite work of this exhibition was “The Scream” as it presents the dynamic application of rapid brushstrokes, distorted lines and visual intensity in order to express the isolated frustration and anxiety of the gender less figure. The violent approach towards this artwork allows the audience to experience intense emotional expression of the subject. The artworks have all been shaped by the social mileu at that time; which broke the traditional art making practises and brought light towards artists perspective and emotions.
