The Star-spangled Banner and Patriotism
What Patriotism means to me! Do you believe in the love for your country? All the soldiers and heroes that are out there in the world fighting for our freedom? The respect and the courage that you may have. Patriotism is like an infection that travels around from one body to another and you can’t cure it with any medication. To me patriotism basically means the love and care for one’s country. Although it may have other definitions, the real and main one is “the love and devotion for your country”. Being patriotic means not only wearing the flag as a pin, putting it up on your yard or saying the national anthem like most people do, It really means caring for the soldiers and everyone that helps this country be free, also to give out your love and potential to your country. There are a lot of examples and symbols that patriotism can mean to me or to anyone in this world. For example, September 11, the United States flag, the Statue of Liberty and many more are symbols of patriotism. I think that patriotism has grown more since 9/11 the day that changed the world, and that it is going to keep on growing more and more throughout the years to come. A married couple is like patriotism because they can’t decide on the right choice or also like each other about how they are. Martin Luther King Jr. had the courage to lead a movement against segregation he also had the courage to tell us what was wrong and what we did right. To me that is real patriotism because he was willing to fight for our country and love it equally among others. “If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen” is a famous quote by Ronald Reagan that I think describes patriotism because it simply means love one another equally.
So to me patriotism means the love for your county, it also means many other different things to one another. Remember you can be patriotic if you love and respect your country by just basically caring.

As a former president once said " And so, my fellow Americans ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country". Patriotism is found in every country, but it's the occupants of that country that have patriotism towards their own. This loyalty is seen in both "How to Tell a True War Story" and "Soldiers Home". Patriotism to me is one's natural right to show pride in being an American. Patriotism exists on different levels when taking into consideration people's perspective on war.…

James Bradley wrote this book after researching his father’s past “John Bradley” in the raising of Flag at Iwo Jima. His father, John Bradley kept to himself, and never really talked about what happened and his memories of Iwo Jima. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, it changed Americans outlook on war. This means Americans were now involved in a “two-ocean war” as James described it. Americans were enraged and wanted nothing more than to make sacrifices for their country. Shortly before America entered the war Mike Strank enlisted in the Marines. Harlon Block enlisted with his entire Weslaco High school football team. Jack, John’s brother enlisted in the Navy, trying to avoid battle but still serving his Country as he quickly realized this was not the case.…

Patriotism symbolizes the grave devotion, pride, loyalty, and love one shows for his or her’s country. It’s not just about igniting fireworks or having cookouts; it should be expressed each and every day we stand on our country’s grounds. In the passage John Mccain wrote, Mccain mentions about his friend Mike sowing on the American flag again on the inside of his shirt, because he knew it was important to everyone there with him. That shows so much pride he has for America. Mike didn’t care if he was beaten for disobeying the Vietnamese because he refuses to let his country down, and would probably take another beating just for the same reason. In current day America, a lot of Americans are retaliating against their country. There is a lot…

    Patriots or Traitors

    • 612 Words

Patriotism has always been a truly ambiguous term. The media portrays it with glory, while others describe it as “rebel” or “red-neck.” In addition, the fine line between patriot and traitor has always existed, as decisions and acts that have been made for the sake of so-called “patriotism” are called into question. The case of the Founding Fathers is also controversial. Before the Revolutionary War, the Sons of Liberty were still subjects of the English crown, and thus it can be argued that they were traitors. However, as history shows, the Founding Fathers were clearly patriots. Through their love of this country while trying to resolve issues without violence, their patriotism clearly defines this nation.…

The Pledge of Allegiance was specifically made for showing off patriotism in the United States when it was originally written in 1892. This was until 1954, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Congress added “under God” to the pledge (Encyclopedia Britannica). This has started causing a stir in the United States. Some say it should be changed or maybe even removed. Some say it should stay. I believe it should be changed, but it is not required to be removed.…

The final aspect of a patriot is pride for their country. This pride is taught in history classrooms all around the United States, in homes of this country’s people, and is held in the hearts of those who truly love “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Proud patriots range from the sweet, Vietnam veteran who wears his service cap proudly to the little girl who waves her flag on Independence Day. If one is truly proud of their country, it will be evident to those around…

It is singing our national anthem proudly with your hand on your heart, and it is showing gratitude to those who have sacrificed their lives for their country. Just as our national anthem says, “our flag was still there”. Our flag stood in the middle of the remains of 9/11 and our flag still stands waving high across our nation today because of the sacrifice of those who have and who are currently serving our…
