“Patriotism” contains the Latin root “pater” or “patris”. This means “father”. The Founding Fathers were fatherly by signing the Declaration of Independence. They wanted their country to be independent, like a real father would want his child to learn to be independent. By signing the Declaration, the Founding Fathers had bounties put on their heads as traitors.
Patriotism is being willing to die or sacrifice your personal comforts for your country. Many Founding Fathers died or donated most of their wealth to the war efforts of the American Revolution.
