In most cases, coming off as pretty, skinny, and smart is a top priority. An interest in sports or male-liked activities is usually seen as peculiar.
The “like a girl” comment is offensive and is said to both genders. Girls are portrayed as weak and dependable and men are portrayed as confident and aggressive. When individual strive to break away from these labels, it is seen as eccentric. Most believe that girls/women should act one way while boys/men should act another way.
The Always campaign is effective because it makes people want to challenge these norms. The “like a girl” phase should have positive connotations attached to it. We need to advocate for girls/women's confidence. Fighting for change inspires people. This ad campaign was able to successfully able to raise girl’s self-esteem.
