The Student Assistants: Their Attitudes Toward Education, Work Ethic, Self-Esteem, and Ambitions
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion assists students in pursuing their educational plans. These students are willing to work as office assistants. Applicants to the Student Assistance (SA) Program are required to take an examination and interviewed by the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA). Those who are qualified are required to submit documents to the OSA and recommended to the different offices who need student assistants. They are required to sign contracts regarding their job as student assistants. Each department is responsible for administering the plan for the student assistants and monitoring their working hours.
Major Objective. The researcher would like to determine the attitudes toward education, work ethic, self-esteem and ambitions of the student assistants of Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion for academic year 2011-2012. Specific questions are:
1.What are the characteristics of the of the student assistants of Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion in terms of sex, age, home location, educational attainment of parents, occupation of parents, estimated monthly family income, course enrolled in, and year level?
2. What are the attitudes of the respondents toward education?
3. What is the nature of the respondents’ work ethic in terms of attendance/punctuality, honesty, initiative, respect, cooperation, and human relations?
4. What is the level of the respondents’ self-esteem?
5. What are the ambitions of the respondents? 6. Is there a significant difference in the attitudes toward education, work ethic, self-esteem and ambitions of the student assistants when grouped according to sex, age, home location, educational attainment of parents, occupation of parents, estimated monthly family income, course enrolled in, and year level?
Methodology:
This is a population study of the student assistants in Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion. Descriptive
