The Sykes–Picot Agreement was an agreement between the Triple Entente alliance of Britain, France, Italy, and Russia. The agreement defined the borders, spheres of influence ,and control in the Middle East after the Ottomans were defeated.The agreement allowed Britain to control Jordan, southern Iraq, and the Acre-Haifa enclave zone. The British would get Acre-Haifa zone to enable access to the Mediterranean sea. France would get control of southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Russia would get Thrace, the Turkish Straits, and Armenia. And Italy would get Southwestern Turkey. However, Palestine was left for further negotiations. The British signed the agreement to help the Jewish people to retrieve their ancient homeland and destabilize the Ottoman Empire to increase British influence in the Middle East..
