In Night, by Elie Wiesel, the day before Elie and his family and friends were to be deported, they were taken to the local synagogue. Elie described the place of worship as a huge station luggage and tears. (Wiesel 19) The Nazis had destroyed much of what had been inside. The bimah (altar) was broken, all of the wall hangings had been ripped from their places, leaving the walls empty.
When Moishe the Beadle comes back into the ghetto in the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, several opportunities to escape are missed. Moishe warns the Wiesels about the transports and the killings so that they could get ready and escape. The Wiesels choose not to believe his terrible accounts of what is happening. Elie had asked his father
to sell everything and move to Palestine while it was still possible to buy the necessary certificates, but his father says that he is too old to start over.
When the Wiesels are living in the ghetto and a knock is heard on the window, they don't get it open in time for the warning of danger which a Hungarian inspector was trying to give them. When Maria, the former maid, comes to offer them a hiding place, Elie's father refuses, not wanting to be separated. Sadly, the Wiesels miss many opportunities for escape. The Wiesels ignore the warnings of Moshe the Beadle to evacuate. The Wiesels had an opportunity to escape to Palestine, but Shlomo claims that it is too late in his life for him to start over again in a new place.
While being evacuated from the ghetto, some of the Wiesel family have the opportunity to stay at a woman's house in safety, but the refuse because they do not want their family to be broken up, no matter what the consequences may be. The police officer knocked on the window and was going to tell them that they need to evacuate, but they can't open the window.
There are many way the family could have escaped, but they ignored all signed. But stuff happens for a reason if it didn’t happen then it would happen later, this is life and life is unfair and unpredictable.
