Section 4 1. Holocaust- A great or complete devastation or destruction, especially by fire. 2. Synagogue- A synagogue is a Jewish house of worship, often having facilities for religious instruction. 3. Cabbala-Cabbala is an ancient Jewish mystical tradition based on an esoteric interpretation of the Old Testament. 4. Ghetto-The ghetto is a section of a city, especially a thickly populated slum area. 5. Deportation- The lawful expulsion of an undesired alien or other person from a state. 6. Genocide-the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. 7. Aryan-A non-Jewish Caucasian, especially of Nordic stock. 8. Yom Kippur-A Jewish high holy day observed on the 10th day of the month of Tishri by abstinence from food and drink and by the daylong recitation of prayers of repentance in the synagogue.

    Night is by a Jewish teenager named Eliezer Wiesel. When the life begins, Eliezer lives in his hometown of Sighet, in Hungarian Transylvania. Eliezer likes to study the Torah and the Cabbala. His teacher Moshe the Beadle has been deported.     Introduction: Elizer Wiesel was born in the town call Sighet, Transylvania. “Night” is a novel that shows the author’s experience with his father at a German nazi concentration camp. The novel takes place during the height of the Holocaust and almost at the end of World War Two. Night is a great book and I would recommend everybody to read it. It is sad and hard to get through but it is worth it to read.…

    Yom Kippur is one of three pilgrimage festivals mentioned in the Jewish Bible. It is built around the Sukkot, which is known as the “Festival of the Booths (google).” The Bible indicates the holiday in Leviticus 16:29-30 stating, “In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls and you shall not do any work… for on that day he shall provide atonement for you to cleanse you from all your sins before the Lord” (google). Yom Kippur means a day of atonement – a time to ask for forgiveness of sins, right the wrong done unto others, and reflect on past engagements to embark new opportunities. During the twenty-five hours of observance, the people must refrain from working and consuming food and drink, and pray continuous in the synagogue for repentance and forgiveness. In addition, this time is used to pursue other personal endeavors, such as annulment of vows and reflection on desired lifestyle amendments. The main objective is to expiate for the sins done unto God and moving forward with better. This holiday opens the door for one to ask the fundamental questions that will assist in future changes (Company, 19,Nov 1992). This day is set aside to afflict the soul to atone for the sins of the past year. Once it is entered in the book, the judgment is sealed. It is final chance to change the judgment, make amends, and show repentance.…
