The Three Components Of The Criminal Justice System

For our first class assignment we must answer the following questions about Chapter 1 and the components that make up our criminal justice system in the Unites States. There are three components that make up the criminal justice system in the United States. Law enforcement, the court, and corrections are the three components. Each component function differently. First, there is the law enforcement component. The police functions include taking statements, gathering evidence, performing investigations, arresting offenders and providing testimony in court. In addition, when police officers begins to take a suspect into custody, the police must read the Miranda rights to the suspect. The Miranda rights are the right that everyone has, which include one's right to remain silent, the right to an attorney and the right against self-incrimination.
The second component in the criminal justice system is the court system. After formal charges are filed, a legal case against the criminal offender will begin. The court system includes prosecutors who file charges against the offenders. Prosecution is where the accused are faced with the consequences for their crimes.
Once an offender has been sentenced, the corrections begins. This is typically carried out by government agencies, and involving the punishment, treatment, and supervision of a person who has been convicted of a crime. Some of the offender are sentence to prison, while other are sentence to jail for the crime that they had committed. After the offender get into the correction system they are assigned to the proper confinement facilities and programs. Some prison suffer from a preoccupation with security among top and mid-level of the recovery programs. Correction may include probation, jail, prison, house arrest, and a variety of new community- based sanctions. Lastly, the purposes of correctional agencies are to punish, to rehabilitate, and to ensure public
