Model Communicator Analysis
It was a dark and stormy night (last Tuesday)...

A Model Communicator (MC) appeared in an unlikely place - the two hour state mandated parent orientation class for my son’s Driver Education class. The MC took the stage and worked the room like a stand up comedian. Her high energy and humor immediately engaged/eased the audience, a group of parents weary from Super Bowl celebrations and the wintery mix rush hour commute on top of our apprehension to enter the scary zone of teenage driving.

The MC’s physical movements and expressive body language were her best visual tools. She also used a few props (toy cars) and a dry erase board to make her points. These were good choices given her audience/nature of the material. Darkening the

Keeping parents happy is crucial to her business.

The MC did not bog our minds with too much information (she provided a folder with detailed handouts for our reference) and instead gave specific examples of the major points she wanted to stress, such as line by line detail of the fees/obstacles incurred when a teen driver incurs a moving violation.

Sharing insider information was another effective aspect of MC’s presentation. She knew the in/outs of DMV, permit process, road tests, you name it. Again, this helped gain our confidence with her expertise with teen driving.

The writing skills and techniques learned in my Essentials of Managerial Communication class can and will benefit me in my future classes as well as in my career in many ways. A few of the skills learned are including, but not limited to the appropriate ways of communicating depending on the audience, e-mail and business letter writing etiquette and also the importance of unbiased speaking in the workplace. It is important to have been taught these skills as I now know that there are many changes that need to be made to my future business plan and even in my current work day. I can use the skills that I was taught to give efficient business lectures and presentations. The class also taught me the importance of appropriate introductions and closing. Within this lesson I learned that every presentation should be altered based on the type of audience to whom it will be presented to as a presenter can easily lose his or her audience if the presentation is not created specifically for that audience.…

Do you know how to convince teens to drive more safely? Well I do, I would first start by giving my children a lecture about how quick accidents can occur from a parent's perspective. Also, I would tell them to drive without a cellphone because a cellphone is a main distraction of a teenager. Now i’m going to tie into giving teens advice to drive more cautious.…

I prepared myself to face my worst fear, public speaking. A speech alone was a daunting prospect. A speech alone in front of 12,000 people without a podium was seemingly impossible. This speech, however, represented my development throughout high school. The content reflected my experience and accomplishments as an FBLA member and an officer. My hand gestures, tone, even smile, were choreographed to the syllable, a tribute to my growth in planning and the hours spent practicing speaking for case studies and events.…
