A Model Communicator (MC) appeared in an unlikely place - the two hour state mandated parent orientation class for my son’s Driver Education class. The MC took the stage and worked the room like a stand up comedian. Her high energy and humor immediately engaged/eased the audience, a group of parents weary from Super Bowl celebrations and the wintery mix rush hour commute on top of our apprehension to enter the scary zone of teenage driving.
The MC’s physical movements and expressive body language were her best visual tools. She also used a few props (toy cars) and a dry erase board to make her points. These were good choices given her audience/nature of the material. Darkening the …show more content…

The MC did not bog our minds with too much information (she provided a folder with detailed handouts for our reference) and instead gave specific examples of the major points she wanted to stress, such as line by line detail of the fees/obstacles incurred when a teen driver incurs a moving violation.
Sharing insider information was another effective aspect of MC’s presentation. She knew the in/outs of DMV, permit process, road tests, you name it. Again, this helped gain our confidence with her expertise with teen driving.
