Dr. George Jenkins faced many obstacles while he lived in the hood. There are many examples of this in the book “The PACT”. On page 12 Dr. Jenkins says “I loved school. My third grade teacher, Viola Johnson was responsible for that…I never felt deprived, especially in Miss Johnson’s class”. This shows how his teacher was such a positive influence to him that he remembers her even after graduating from college. Sampson Davis faced the struggles of living in a bad neighborhood but he got out of it to succeed. On page 35 of “The PACT” Davis writes “When I look back over my life I realize that at The most critical stages, someone was there to reach me with exactly what I needed. A martial teacher named Reggie was one of those people”. The example shows how one of Sam’s good influences was a person who helped him and inspired him. In page 37 Davis writes “I saw close-up how she suffered without an education, and I didn’t want the same thing to happen to me”. This example show how his mom’s illiteracy affected him and encouraged him to do better in school. On page 89 Dr. Sampson Davis Wrote “He promised to split the profit of his crack sales with me if I invested money on the front end to help buy the drugs.” This example shows how crack was one of the bad influence in his life and how he sold it with people who were bad
