The Transition Of Cultural Differences In The United States
The land that we live on, the Constitution we abide by today and the different cultures we encounter today were not brought here by accident. The United States is a country founded by immigrants from Europe. It was not an overnight process that occurred in a short amount of time. It was a transition that involved a case of cultural encounter, the interaction of two different cultures from diverse backgrounds. From 1492-1763, North America, the new world was under a stage of colonization between indigenous Native Americans, with Spanish and British from Europe, the old world. In some ways, it's somewhat easy for most of us to become a citizen of the United States. But in the past, it was another story. For example, colonists from Britain grew weary of British oppression over the years. The settlers wanted independence from Britain and right to be there own citizen, they paid their taxes and were fairly obedient at one point, yet over many years colonists denied The Natives, African Americans, Women, etc of their rights as a citizen. The European settlers oppressed minorities as authorities oppressed them in the past, is it a subconscious attempt to remain superior, or did they know what they were doing?…

The information that I have learned about diversity in the United States has helped me better understand our society and relate to different people. I think that diversity is a beautiful thing that we should embrace instead of looking at negatively. The United States has come a long way in terms of discrimination and prejudice against different people from different cultures, backgrounds and races. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of what some people went through in order to gain the respect of people that looked down on them because they were of a different descent. Looking back at the way African Americans…

The founding father designed a government that was both inclusive yet guarded, to protect Americas from their and fellow Americans own greed. Furthermore, the founding fathers believed in democracy, which is where our right to vote originates form, but also in human selfishness and greed, which is what produced our elected officials, checks and balances, and is what makes America a democratic republic as opposed to a pure democracy. The founding fathers resented the King and high authority so they endowed each American with inalienable rights such as the right to bear arms. Unlike Europe, American never had a serious class divide such as surfs and peasants fighting kings and nobles for basic freedoms and rights. The United States was almost entirely comprised of immigrants who came to American, seeking a better life than the former life they had in Europe. As a result, citizens worked for everything, never relying upon on or using one another to obtain what the desired like the nobles of Medieval Europe. The lack of a national religion allowed people to worship whomever the desired, kept people from feeling repressed, and prevented a powerful government centered upon religion that would infringe upon the rights of the…

Since 1776, the United States has been considered the most abundant advocate of freedom and equality. Its emphasis on liberty is dramatically due to its dedication to the Christian belief that all men are created equal by God. Why then, did the Native Americans’ civil and equality rights seem to parish upon the Europeans’ desire for western expansion in the 1830s? Western America, a “new world” to profit-seeking European explorers, was home to many different religious and cultural groups including the Native Americans. These two worlds were separated by language, landscape, tradition, and myth. When the Europeans arrived…

Our country was made upon the principle that all men were created equal. The pilgrims ran away from the church of England because it didn’t agree with their beliefs. The went to America to form a place where people could go and be different without any judgement. We are also all immigrants or descendants of immigrants trying to live the “American Dream”. Not all Americans were born here but for the ones who were, some ancestor of theirs had to have been an immigrant and been welcomed to live in America. The Americans who were not born here are, of course, immigrants and they have been accepted into the country with open…

America was, as expected, a place of many opportunities, lots of land, and plenty of resources. To support the growth of settlers, the US government expanded America. Many people turned a new leaf in their life after coming to America. But, there were some people who didn't prosper from this influx of settlers. these people were the Native Americans, and they were the ones who got pushed around in order for the settlers to move in. The Trail of Tears was a result of the growing population of Americans. To take the Indian land that the Native Americans would not give up, Polk shackled the Indians and forced them into wagons, moving them west of the Mississippi river. Dozens of Indians died on the way there. The government also pushed the Nez Perce out of their homeland and onto a reservation to make way for the settlers. All of this was justified by the reason that the Native Americans were savages. Because the Native Americans lived differently, followed different religions ad wore different clothes, the Americans labeled them as savages. This was much like Britain's treatment of the settlers who did not follow the religion the king forced upon them. Those settlers were persecuted, and once they came to America, they persecuted the Native Americans. In order to gain Indian land and expand America, the US gave up its morals and made more of the same mistakes that Britain did. Each…

Many centuries ago, America was established by the great thirteen colonies. These colonies came from European countries, when the thirteen colonies were established they originally wanted this country to be white supremacy. As the United States also expanded to the west, this mentality always stuck. In all my years of learning about the history of the United States, I always learned that before the colonist arrived to this land, there where Native Americans already living here. These people who came from another world, robbed the land from natives. The colonist White supremacy idea was always the goal through the establishment of this country. As our country grew our diversity of people grew as well; the white people brought Africans Americans…

Multiculturalism is the cultural diversity of communities and the policies that promote this diversity. Multiculturalism encourages ideologies and policies that promote this diversity and the desire amongst people to express their own identity in the manner they see fit. Mass amounts of immigration was a feature of the United States economy and society since the first half of the 19th century, and from this is where the metaphor of America being a “melting pot” of different diversity’s and cultures comes from. While looking back on America’s history of all the different cultures, races, and ethnicity’s it is truly unique with each having their own amazing story and journey of how each came over to the Unites States. These stories would be a lot easier to talk about it were one that we could look back upon and talk about how with each group of new immigrants that came to U.S. soil they were welcomed with open arms. It would be nice to say how America truly was this melting pot of immigrants who became Americans and treated each other as their own. That each of those groups came over with the hope and determination of achieving the American dream of freedom, a job, and equal treatment for them and their families. However, if we look closely through history while there are great parts written in history books of the early settlers and the discovery of the Unites States and the building of a great nation under hard work and Christian values. There is also a part of history that is not so proudly told, and that history contains discrimination, racism, repression, and a continued pattern of these things which also resulted in establishing white privilege that is still around today. In the early 1800’s blacks were enslaved to wealthier white people who owned them and used them as slaves. Most people today would ignorantly say that that was hundreds of years ago and that our nation is past that and…
