The Trial Of Cousin Joe Monologue
So what you’re telling me is that if I tell my story in front of the jury I will get a lighter sentence? That reminds me of this one time where my cousin Joe, you know Cousin Joe right? Anyway, he was caught murdering five people and they locked him up real tight but if he sold out his accomplice he would get a lighter sentence. Cousin Joe only got life for his murders. That’s a deal if I’ve ever seen one. Cousin Joe is still waiting to be released to this day. Man, I can’t wait to see Cousin Joe. Anyway, what were we talkin’ about? Oh yeah, the robbery. It all started one day when I was takin’ these drugs, right, and I was as high as a kite. Like, my buddy asked me to spell ‘orange’ and I said the fruit or the colour. Woo boy was that stuff good. Anyway, I saw an old woman walk by me holding a bunch of medication. Like jesus lady, those pills the only thing keepin’ you alive? Well, as I said I was higher than the Sahara Desert, and I needed more of a buzz. So the next day when I wasn’t so high I decided I would break in to that old bat’s house. So I waited for the perfect time to rob a house – 8 o’clock. It would have definitely been passed that old bat’s bedtime. So I approached the little brick town house that she lived in that night. There was this one time where Cousin Joe and me got in a fight as children and he beat the snot right outta me. So when I saw that lady screamin’ at me I knew it was time to go. I booked it over to the window but slipped on a patch of water that just appeared. I never saw it comin’. Before I knew it my face was on the hard concrete and that screamin’ lady was comin’ closer. I struggled to get up but slipped again on the water. The next thing I knew a large chair hit me in the back of the head. That lady was insane! The blow knocked me right out just like that fight with Cousin Joe. When I woke up I was being arrested! That crazy lady should be going to jail not

On a sunny Saturday morning when I was 5 years old, my sister and I were playing a game where we would push ourselves off of our bed like it was a slide. Our room was a pigsty; it looked as if a tornado had passed through. The mess from our closet met up with the end of our bed. I had just slid down the bed feet first into the mess when it happened.…

At bedtime, Jennie agreed to let Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jenny, and Betty stay up and play with their toys as long as they locked the door and turned out the lights. Often times people plea-bargain in exchange for testimony this gives the accomplice an incentive to fabricate the truth. With this chance to lie you are creating an unfair judicial procedure. In theory, a petty criminal who is not very important is supposed to testify against a very important criminal in exchange for some sort of reward and there is supposed to be more justice because you've put the more important criminal away. However, since the reward is a reduced sentence, the incentive for most criminals is to give any testimony at all even if it is false. This is what is happening now and it is clear that this is undermining the criminal justice system. Justice is concerned with giving each their due. If someone is innocent, justice requires that they be found innocent and vice…

I know, I wasn't going to win Alexandrea but I still hoped that there was a shred of goodness in Maycomb, Enough to let an innocent man, free of any crime go. I wished that there would no longer be a divide of people though something as frivolous as the color of there skin. That man is innocent and everyone knew it, but the jury still came back Guilty and I knew from that moment that that man's life was over. I have done all I can and I still came back empty handed, I told my daughter about the importance of stepping into other people's shoes and imagining yourself in their position but even I have no clue what was going through that Jury's mind when they convicted him.…

As I sit there in front of the judge with smiling at the jury and my lawyer with my lawyer my forehead drenched with sweat I was filled with apprehension. I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t want to get my own mother in trouble even knowing what she was doing with me was wrong. My head was spinning. My heart was pounding. “Miss Bowman will you please point to the person who extorted you”, I heard her but responded as if she hadn’t ask me that question yet.…

To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that focuses on discrimination. The County of Maycomb believes that white people are superior in everyway. Lee uses the trial to emphasize the severity of the Maycomb viewpoint. She uses it to show the readers instead of just telling them. It is also a way to discreetly show the readers how severe the Maycomb fever is without needing to have Scout, the narrator, comprehend the problem. By carefully choosing what happens and who is involved in the trial Lees proves her point explicitly.…

I walked down the middle isle, acting scared. I felt the cold metal on my wrist but i wasn't worried. Not even the tight grip of the burly police officers could shake me. They were missing something, the hard evidence. There was no murder weapon, no witnesses, no fingerprints, nothing of mine. In fact i wouldn't of been there if it wasn't for my past of crime. The trial started, and they brought up evidence, where I lived, the half right motive, my past crimes, but they didn't have solid evidence. I watched my defendant stand up and point this out, along with my simple alibi and how my past shouldn't affect the decision of the jury. The jury took longer than i thought to decide, which worried me a little, but the final verdict was not…
