The Crystal merchant is described when Everett says, “there are some people who live in a dream world." He often dreams of going to Mecca, but he never does. He would always see people pass by his store which was located on top of a hill and most of them would be travelers. He never left because he was used to his routine and he wanted things to remain the same. Some days he would think of leaving, but he would always find excuses. When Santiago first began working with him, his sales were going downhill so then Santiago suggested putting a crystal in a glass box outside the store so that foreign travelers would see their fine crystals. The crystal merchant did not like the idea, but he agreed to do that and also agreed to the idea of selling tea in crystal cups for the travelers. The merchant does not go after his Personal Legend because he feels that if he goes, he will have no reason to live and he would be disappointed in the journey. “He had been in the same place for thirty years: a shop at the top of a hilly street where few customers passed.
