The Value Of Personality Assessments
In my personal and professional opinion, I believe that career and personality assessments are very beneficial. Especially, for adolescents and young adults who are indecisive about what career paths they want to choose. Career and personality assessments are also beneficial for individuals who may want to change their career. Career assessments measure individual’s characteristics and personality traits and categorizes them into different career fields. They match their characteristics and personality traits with the job that best suits them. Just because an individual measures may fit a particular job category, does not mean they will be best suited for that career.
Many factors play into a person’s personality such as: environmental factors, family background, and the individual’s personal story. You cannot solely rely on an individual’s score to determine if they will do well in a certain work environment. As a high school counselor, I will have an ample amount of duties including: guidance classes, conducting workshops, group counseling sessions and individual counseling sessions. When counseling my upperclassmen, I am going to be focused on college workshops and career readiness. I am going to be finding resources to prepare my clients for higher education and the career world. As a career counselor, some of my clients I may have to assess if they have interests about a career they may be unsure about. By having them take an assessment, it can give them a general idea of careers that may best suit them. It can also help my clients chose from other career that may also interest them.
