to handle a situation with intellect. All may be possible and all have great values behind them, but what makes a professional individual is having all these components that holds the structure of the individual together. Meaning: that no matter what happens, big or small challenges, they will be able to get through those moments where many tend to fall short at. Professionalism means keeping the commitment in which you and the organization agreed upon, delivering high quality work, and creating an expertise status.
After doing some research on professionalism I stumbled across an article that spoke about Profession-Centrism. In the article Interprofessional Education: A Theoretical Orientation Incorporating Profession-Centrism and Social Identity Theory (2014) it speaks on how a profession is viewed in the world and the reinforcement throughout the trainings, experiences and educational processes. This article speaks on the culture and how "professionalism" is viewed in each group differently. Which indicates that we all organize the interaction with social groups based on legitimacy and outsiders. This article talks about how professionalism is being special and possessing knowledge, skills, or training that is unavailable to others. These professional trainings seem to come from our mentors, teachers, bosses, etc., to help establish boundaries of what a professional truly is.
In conclusion, I have learned that professionalism is not only what you learn but it is the circle around you also. It is those individuals who plays a particular part in our lives which helps us focus on our profession and how to handle situations accordingly. It is not just about how you look but it is the mannerisms you have. If you show maturity, it shows your growth and it gives you a good look towards other people and professions.
