The entire team met once, face-to-face, at the start of the project. After that initial meeting, all subsequent meetings were limited to weekly teleconferences. These teleconferences were frequently cancelled by the project manager Didier Amrani, sometimes without notice or input from other team members. Due to the way he controlled these meetings, it became increasingly difficult for information to be shared effectively and in a timely manner. This breakdown in communication eventually let to a disconnect between the American and French teams. I would have also selected the members of the various teams and have them participate in project management training. All persons would also have to participate in time management training as well, all prior to the start of the project. During the project, I would schedule team building activities to help with motivation, energy and morale.
6. Can this project be saved? Can this team? What steps can be taken?
I believe that this project and team can be saved. Majority of persons on the team have the technical skills and knowledge that are required to make the project a success. The main ingredients that seem to be missing are leadership, effective time management, effective communication and motivation. At this stage, the heads of the company need to have a meeting with the team members involved with the project to set new time lines under specific guidelines and ground rules. Team leads must be reminded of their level of accountability and all team members should be scheduled for the necessary training sessions. Weekly/bi-weekly progress reports should be made mandatory as a tool to track progress and to ensure that the project is on time. With the implementation of these changes, I believe that this project can be a
