The viola is a string instrument that plays a vital role in the orchestra. It is known as the alto, or lower version on the violin family. Andrea Amati is known for creating the violin family that we know of today. This family of instruments developed in the 1500’s. They were generated in the country of Italy, where most instruments were being created in this time period. The shape of the viola has altered through the years because of the evolution of music and the comfort of the players. The violin is always the most popular instrument in the orchestra; however, the viola was at its peak of popularity in the 1700’s when it was occasionally used to play the melody line of the musical performance. Its uniqueness is granted by its alto clef. The use of the alto clef generates a sound, which other instruments cannot have because they use different types of clefs. The viola is generally used as the inner voice of the orchestra because of its ability to create various pitches within musical pieces. Violists read the musical pieces in alto clef because the instrument produces music in the alto clef. The viola is known as the “Cinderella of the orchestra” because it has always been underappreciated of its abilities. Its lack of reorganization of its beauty leads it to being names as “Cinderella” because similar to the fictional character; the instrument is not appreciated for its beauty and capability. However, the viola does still represent a small portion of the entire orchestra. Despite this fact, the viola is now more appreciated than every because of its beautiful sounds. Nest is the neck. The neck is the long part of the instrument, which contains the majority of the pressure from the string. The neck is behind the fingerboard. The fingerboard generates music. The violist puts their fingers on the fingerboard to create different notes to generate beautiful music according to the piece. The neck and the fingerboard are intertwined because the neck holds the fingerboard in place. Next is the body. The body of the viola does the most important job. It amplifies the sounds and notes that the violist creates with the pressure that is put on the fingerboard and the neck. The body of the viola is generally created by wood because studies have proven that wood amplifies sound the
