I have always struggled with rejection and not feeling as if I was good enough. When I first discovered Tori Kelly, my parents had just divorced and I was getting picked on due to the fact that I was too short and was into “music” not sports, which was considered the cool thing to do. Yes, I played varsity tennis but to others that wasn’t really a sport. Volleyball or basketball were the only real ones apparently. Yes, she talks about love in her songs as well, we all have relationships and we write about them, but her lyrics show that she believes in a deeper, authentic, less artificial love. She's talking about real love. She explains that it's more than a one-night-stand or a physical attraction to those blue eyes and tattoos. Girls will often change just so a guy will notice them or like them, but in Tori’s song “Anyway” she says “Well this is the only Tori that I know how to be I'm sorry if that don't fit your reality…I'm a be myself all day and night, whether you leave or stay, this is me any anyway.” A guy needs to love you for you.
