"I've heard about the wineglass marathon for many many years and I've seen the impact it's hard on the community. Certainly, the growth over the past several years has made it even more of an impact on the community," said general manager of the Corning Wegmans, Garret Callahan. By day, Garret is the general manager at the Corning Wegmans. On October 4th, he'll be just one of thousands of runners running the Wineglass half-marathon.
"I was kind of challenged by some friends, late last year, to be a little
bit more active, and they've challenged me to run a series of half-marathons in Rochester. I decided that it was something that I needed to do, and I did. I figured if I was going to run 4 half-marathons than I should get involved in this incredible event locally," said Callahan.
So far, Garret has run 3 half-marathons and has 2 more to go. As a long time Corning native, he has seen the Wineglass Marathon evolve over the years. "I realized this is real and legitimate event, a really large event. Probably one of the largest, if not the largest draw for this community all year. So I started to take notice a year or two ago that this is something that we definitely be involved in."
The Corning Wegmans went from donating a few bagels many years ago, to now donating their much anticipated chicken noodle soup. "I think we have a lot of what the running community is looking for. So anytime we have that many people, we are certainly going to be impacted in a positive way," said Callahan.
