On October 6, 1973 Egyptian and Syrian forces united to launch an attack against Israel on Yom Kippur, which is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It was a surprise attack and led to heavy casualties. But the reason for the attack varied for each of the two countries and extended from many circumstances that preceded this surprise attack. The consequences for both Israel and Syria of the war were major as well. There were many factors that led up to the Yom Kippur War. The most major event that preceded this initial attack and war was the Six Day War, which occurred in 1967. In the Six Day War, many of the Arab countries banded together to attack Israel. In a historic upset, not only did Israel win the war, they won territory from Egypt, Syria, and Jordan including receiving the Kotel and holy Temple Mount. The famous quote left from that war is “Har Habayit Beyadenu,” “The Temple Mount is in our hands.” That war left the Middle East shaken, angry, and eager to win back the territory they lost. The novel “the Wednesday Wars” by Gary D. Schmidt has some exciting but often odd parts. The moral of the story is to hold on to what you have because on any day it could all be gone. Some examples of this is when Holling’s sister Heather ran of to California to find herself, or when Holling’s girlfriend Meryl Lee seems to betray him. The point is you should always look after everyone and everything you love. Holling was lucky because his sister came back and he got back together with Meryl Lee but the moral still applies. There is a saying “You don’t know what you got until it’s gone” and in the books case it’s very true.…

These two situations are different because at the beginning of the chapter Holling is being mocked, and criticized because he wore bright yellow tights in the local production of “The Tempest”. Doug Sweiticks brother taped posters all through the halls of Camillo Junior High. At the end of the chapter Holling saved his sister from a bus sliding on the icy roads. Another reason why the US supported the Israelis was because they had similar political aims. They were against the spread of communism and the US was also resistant to the expansion of the Soviet Union. After the Suez crisis, the United States became…

The obvious reason for this war was the religious tension between the Jewish people and the Roman government. The Roman emperor Nero needed money, and ordered Gessius Florus, the governor of Jerusalem to confiscate it from the Temple treasure. Jews made fun of him and started a collection for “the poor governor “. Enraged by this event the Romans arrested innocent Jews and crucified them. Of course this was tactless and brutal, but it would not have led to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple if there had not been deeper causes.…

The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries saw a bunch of top-notch wars, but the Seven Years War, also called the French and Indian War, because it was the first truly global war. This significant war was subsequently the leading factor to lead into the American Revolution. The American’s referred to it as The French and Indian War. The Prussians called it The Silesian War and the Swede’s called it the Pomeranian war. In fact a historian named Winston Churchill called it “the first world war (Harrison 1965, 13).” The entire war in Europe is that Prussia and Great Britain fought France and Austria, and that the Austrian Hapsburgs wanted to win back Silesia, but which they failed to do. Although wars usually have really complicated causes and it’s very rare that we can refer to one thing that is making them inevitable, yet fortunately the Seven Years War is an exceptional event for this.…
