Theme Of Insanity In Lord Of The Flies

The funny fact about insanity is, no matter what people tell you the reason you go insane is because of the reality that has been brought to life, you get hit with the reality that society tries to hide, and while people shun you and play it off like you know nothing the reality is you know more about the real world than they ever will, this happens in lord of the flies, when a group of boys get stranded on a deserted island fear gets the best of their own created society, one of the boys named simon becomes curious about the so called beast that has created the fear among the boys, being so young their imaginations runs wild once the simplest thought of a monster or beast comes to life, it spreads like wildfire and continues to wreak havoc
on the young minds of the malnourished boys, living off fruit and raw meat also contributes the insanity amongst the boys, they stay in this delirious state of mind while wandering the island, their minds turning vines into snakes and shadows into monsters of their own creation, their little minds twisting and turning reality into a fantasy created only by their deepest fears, ergo ego or the line between external reality and physical reality this line is considered insanity, the extreme sense of reality is to much for the brain to handle, the brain creates a false reality or state of dementia, would you be able to handle this state of dementia would you go through and try to find the reality of this state of mind or would you simply just shut down and die? This is the dilemma the boys went through, weather they realized it or not.
Even though the boys each had a different outlook on how things should be run, smon just seemed to follow and help along the way, he was a quiet and gentle soul, it wasn’t til the end of the book that he tried to step up and say something and when he did it got him killed, as for the rest there was, piggy an outspoken and picked on character that seems to get judged at every turn in the story from his name to his looks he just can’t get a break, to me he seems like the reality of society, how everyone is judged no matter where they go or what they do to get there, although he also shows an intellectual side, he gives ralph information and insight and ralph calls meeting to bring piggy’s ideas to attention,ralph is more of the idea of society the face of the company the good, not to mention he also shows the crumbling the society when, the oh so holy followers, turn on him and trade in for child like play where as he shows more of the adult side of things the reality of surviving, jack merridew or the wannabe chief, jack shows signs of jealousy, and the want to be free of all restrictions all things we experience as children, but we don’t appreciate these restrictions until we are older, jack represents the child that they all want to be while on the island, playing all day and no consequences for what we do or how we get what we want, jack creates his own tribe claiming that they hunt all day and that there are no rules, feasting all night on the meat that they hunt, this is a child's fantasy right playing all day n chores and all the food they can eat, although this doesn’t end up being such a fantasy in real life, they turn into a pack of sadists performing rituals for the so called beast and painting their faces with the blood of the killed pigs, they don’t ever really see the consequences in what they do and how they do it, and if any one questions how they do things, they twist their words to tell them why jack is right and that the offender is wrong,
they are also the ones who end up killing simon out of fear, i believe piggy once said that once jack paints his face he is a different person, split personality disorder is a form of insanity, perhaps the insanity of reality had gone to far and had changed jack for the worse, the fear of your own mind can drive you to insanity faster than anything else maybe all this hunting time was a little too much for jack.
