The three witches are a small but very important part of the play in Macbeth. They were the one who prophesied that Macbeth would be Thane of Cawdor, the king of Scotland and king in Act 1/Scene 3. Macbeth is the main character for this play. The audience understands Macbeth as a noble soldier at the start, however, he does start to change when he meets the three witches in Act 1/Scene 3 when the witches had prophesied the 3 prophecies. Ever since Macbeth had met the witches; it has gotten Macbeth determined to kill Duncan, so he can become king. He however does change his mind into not killing Duncan, but later on in Act 1/Scene 5-7, he does get persuaded by his wife Lady Macbeth, into killing Duncan as well as killing Banquo and Macduff’s family along the way due to eliminating threats to his own power. At this stage of the play is where Macbeth starts to go uphill and downhill. This is where he starts to feel regret due to the murder of Duncan, and then changing into a harsh and an unfeeling person afterwards. We know this because in Act 2/Scene 3 line 116-117, he says, "Oh yet I do repent me of my fury, that I did kill him," due to this quote, Macbeth isn’t afraid to admit that he had committed the murder of Duncan. It was also his fault that he is having nightmares because he was the one who wanted to killed Duncan, Banquo and Macduff’s family, whereas the witches had never said that he had to do those things in order to become king. At the end of the day, Macbeth is the one to blame because of gullibility, yet, he could have avoided all of these situations by simply ignoring the witches’ prophecies at the start.
In conclusion, Macbeth is the character that has the most fault and is the one to blame because of gullibility where Lady Macbeth would be the second character with the most fault and would be the second one to be blamed because of her greediness whereas
