In works of literature, Sometimes a character has a made a sacrifice for another character. An example of a character making a sacrifice for another is in the novel Ungifted by Gordon Korman. The main theme of the book was to not judge people based on first impressions and to look after one another. In this case, Abigail sacrificed her education in order for Donovan, who is the main character, to stay in her school. In order to understand as to why and how Abigail helped Donovan stay in the school , you need to know the background of the events leading up to the sacrifice. The test was being held on a computer and from the start of the test it was noticeable that Donovan was not going to pass the test. Every time that Donovan clicked on an answer however, the cursor would move to the correct answer. Donovan did not know what was going on but what he did know was that he was going to pass the test due to someone helping him. He never figured out who the person was. It is not till the end of the book that Abigail reveals that she was the one who hacked the computer in order to answer the questions for Donovan, she also mentioned how she would have gotten in so much trouble for doing so. One of the teachers who believed that donovan cheated was questioning everyone in Donovan’s class. She told them the severity of cheating would result in expulsion of the student who helped Donovan. Even though Abigail could not afford being expelled from the school, she still helped Donovan because she cared about him and did not want to see him leave the school. From reading the book ungifted, the reader can learn not to judge a person based first impressions. Neither did Donovan and Abigail like each other in the beginning of the book. As time went on however, the grew to like each other as friends and began to care for one another.
